As school semesters end and holiday festivities begin, there’s one day that everyone awaits. Well, maybe everyone except Apple Music users. Of course, with Spotify Wrapped releasing recently, I just have to discuss this day as it’s one of my underrated favorite times of the year.

The key aspect of Spotify Wrapped that connects with me is all the statistics and data that come with it. I’ve never been a mathematical person or too invested in the field of statistics, but I love looking at random statistics and data points that correlate with my interests or schedules. I’ve made color-coded Google sheets tracking my assignments throughout a semester, which “surprise songs” Taylor Swift sang throughout The Eras Tour, and analyzing the edit of Survivor seasons to predict the winner.

With that being said, I’ve always loved music, which I’m sure is not a unique take at all (and I’ll be the first to say that my music taste itself isn’t unique, either). So, having Spotify Wrapped connect my love of niche data points and my personalized music taste is truly everything I could ask for. Plus, I get to compare with my friends and have a playlist detailing the 100 songs I listened to most! It’s basically Christmas Day for me.

So, what was on my Spotify wrapped?

Top artists:
taylor swift\'s 1989 (taylors version)
Taylor Swift / Republic
  • Taylor Swift: Top 5%, because of course. The Eras Tour and re-recordings of Speak Now and 1989 really reignited my childhood Swiftie phase and I couldn’t be happier about it. Especially since Speak Now was always my favorite, now I get to scream Better Than Revenge all over again.
  • Olivia Rodrigo: With GUTS out now, this was also a given. If you somehow haven’t streamed GUTS yet, my underrated favorite is making the bed.
  • 100 gecs: Definitely the most unique artist on this list. My hyperpop phase wasn’t a phase; I really do like the genre and the sound of 100 gecs. Their most recent album, 10,000 gecs, came out this year! Off of it, I’d recommend Hollywood Baby.
  • Lyn Lapid: So underrated! I saw her open for Ricky Montgomery a year or so ago and now I just adore her music. The deluxe version of her latest ep, to love in the 21st century, just came out. So far, my favorite song from this project is the alternative.
  • Conan Gray: He’s dropped a few singles this year, but no album yet. Still, all the songs were great (Winner being my personal favorite), and Superache is one of my top albums ever. Just be prepared to cry when you listen.
Top Songs
  • Cruel Summer – Taylor Swift
  • vampire – Olivia Rodrigo
  • bad idea right? – Olivia Rodrigo
  • I Can See You (Taylor’s Version) (From the Vault) – Taylor Swift
  • The Man – Taylor Swift

  • My top Genre was Broadway. The Theatre Major is truly showing.
  • Was I the only person who got Ithaca for the city most similar to me? Those who get it, get it. But I really do feel like I was the only one with Ithaca!
  • For my listening style, I was the Hypnotist. Which makes sense, because I’m definitely the type of person to only stream one artist or album at a time before moving on to something else.
  • My listening time was 20,340 minutes! I know that’s likely amateur numbers compared to other people out there.
My name is Jess and I’m currently a junior Theatre Education major at Winthrop! Alongside being passionate about both theatre and education, I love all things Survivor (show), Taylor Swift, and an assortment of other artists and games! I’m excited to professionally ramble about my interests and whatever else crosses my mind!
