Moving Up in Fashion (and Affordability) With “thredUP”

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Winthrop chapter.

Do you love clothes but hate to drop a fortune on unique styles? Do you love a trendy, vintage feel on fabrics but can’t find anything worth your while at the local GoodWill? Do you love buying clothes but hate going to the store? With “thredUP“, you can have all of your shopping needs fixed–and more!

“thredUP” is the newest, cutest and largest online consignment store that’s the “easiest way to shop and sell high-quality secondhand clothes.”

It was co-founded back in 2009 by James Reinhart “when he looked in his closet and couldn’t find anything to wear.” What started out as a “peer-to-peer online sharing of men’s shirt” has now turned into a huge and successful online consignment store, something that nobody thought was possible…especially Reinhart.

But now, Reinhart has his heart…and his closet…full–and is working to get other’s the same satisfaction.

We are transforming the way people think about secondhand,” Reinhart said. “And we have the capacity and the energy and the vision to make that a part of people’s lives for 20, 30, 50 years.”

The three mottos Reinhart and other co-founders have enforced into their company are “styleUP”, “saveUP” and “liveUP”, explaining three of the very important parts to “thredUP“.

The website explains that everybody should “look good and feel good; save time and save money and live consciously and live well”, and with “thredUP“, you can.

We believe everyone should have convenient and affordable access to the brands and styles that best celebrates their individual style,” Reinhart writes on the website. “…Together, we are saving time to focus on the things that matter most, saving money on clothes, living with less, keeping it simple…We know that shopping secondhand helps the world in some small way, and we’re proud to be a part of that. Being a conscious consumer matters. It matters to you, it matters to us, it matters in the whole big picture of the world.”
