Morgan Lowers: Ellen’s Number One Fan

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Winthrop chapter.

Freshman mass communication major Morgan Lowers was one of three college women who appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show Tuesday afternoon. Little did they know, Ellen was planning on giving them each $25,000 to help pay off student loans. Her Campus Winthrop was fortunate enough to talk to Morgan about her entire experience!

What was the process like to get on Ellen? What did you have to do?

I have been submitting to the show since I was 11. I actually submitted emails for 365 days in a row! They just pulled random people, they were her biggest fans!

How long have you been a fan of Ellen DeGeneres?

I have been a die hard Ellen fan since I was 11 years old!

What do you plan on doing with the money you won?

I definitely plan on using that money for college tuition and student loans!

How did it feel being up there during Know or Go?

It was so nerve racking! It was way higher in person and you are standing right in front of Ellen!

Since you’re a mass communication major, what do you want to do after graduation?

My plan as of right now is try and get into the NYU graduate school, but if not then hopefully I can get a job at Ellen or the Today’s Show!

How would you describe Ellen in 3 words?

Perfect, caring, and genuine.

When you wrote Ellen, what all would you say?

When I wrote to Ellen, I simply just confessed my love for her, stated how I want to have my own talk show when I get older and I told them about my wisdom teeth video.

Can you describe what was going through your head through it all? From the call to the actual taping of the show?

When I got the call, I instantly started crying in the middle of the students center. I could not believe it was actually The Ellen Show calling me! It was breathtaking and so surreal. Once I got there, I had no idea what to expect!

What was the taping of the show like?

The taping of the show was so upbeat and unreal! The audience was so happy and really helped me stay calm up there on the stage.

Did you meet Andy and Twitch?

I did meet Andy and Rebel Wilson (Fat Amy), but unfortunately Twitch was not there.

Did you actually talk to Ellen herself (off camera)?  If so, what did she say?

I did speak a few words to Ellen after. I told her how I wanted to have my own talk show just like her and she said “I cant wait to see you on TV. I know you can do it.” That statement is so inspiring and I cannot wait for the future.
