It is no secret that things look extremely different this year due to COVID. First Easter… then Memorial Day… 4th of July… Labor Day… now Halloween, all in different circumstances than we are used to. Now we could decide to remain negative, not look into what the point is to try to celebrate, or we could be innovative and find ways to celebrate these holidays in a safe and joyous way.

Just like during Christmas, the movie marathons begin and the channels are stocked with movies of the season. If you don’t already, try starting weekly movie nights with your roommates or family. Make a list of Halloween inspired movies and choose one each Friday night, order pizza or have a themed dinner, and watch the movie all together. It is the little things like bonding and spending time with your household that can bring you a sense of familiarity.

Break out the bins in the attic or go to Hobby Lobby and decorate the yard & around the house!! This gets you and your household in the mood of the season while also giving you a task to work on together. When the neighbors drive by, they are going to love the spookiness going on and maybe it will inspire others to still celebrate in any way they can. This could also lead to some DIY crafty projects from Pinterest which are so much fun to make and very rewarding to see their outcomes. Years from now you will look back to remember how you still found a way to celebrate and will have physical proof of your accomplishment!

Have a classic Halloween party with your family or roommates! We are all in the same boat so coming together is super important in times like these. Similar to decorating, this gives people a chance to be productive and happy in the midst of adversity. Set up a fun dinner, play some traditional Halloween party games, carve some pumpkins, order some costumes or make some homemade ones, have a photoshoot or contest!

Do what you can to still enjoy this Holiday while being conscious of others and your surroundings. If you choose to participate in Trick-Or-Treating or gatherings, do so responsibly by wearing a mask (see, even that can be decorated for the Holiday!) and properly distance yourselves from others! Hope these tips help you in this spooky season, HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
