Family. Can’t live with ’em, can’t live without ’em.

For some they’re our best friends. For others, we couldn’t move away from home fast enough. I come from a big family of 6 kids, and I though I love them to death and would do just about anything for them (including hiding a dead body), I have had to deal with my fair share annoyances throughout the years. I’m sure if you come from a big family, you can agree with me when I say big families definitely come with problems.

There’s nothing better than eating some good leftovers from the night before; it saves you the stress of having to wonder what to eat for lunch or dinner the next day. You walk up to the fridge, ready to savor every bite of yesterday’s cookout chicken tenders, only to find that they’re gone. Even if you label food as yours, it will still magically end up disappearing. Nothing is sacred in the house.

If you come from a big family, you know the feeling of having to share a room. For 18 years of my life, I was always sharing a room with either of my older sisters (until they eventually moved out). Not being able to have your privacy can be frustrating, especially if you want to have friends over or need to get schoolwork done. Don’t even get me started about the bathroom. Cue never ending arguments about whose turn it is to clean the toilet.

Lastly, you know if you have a lot of siblings and if one gets in trouble, usually the rest get lumped in to it. Whether your sibling rats you out or unjustly drags you in to the situation, you somehow end up getting in trouble, even if you did nothing wrong.

(Gotta get our receipts out)

Sure, coming from a big family may have its downsides, but at the end of the day its nice to have a built in support system and people who care about you unconditionally.

Not everybody is so lucky, and I am who I am today because of my big family, and I honestly wouldn’t trade it for the world.
