Halloween is my favorite time of the year (other than Christmas), so it is safe to say that I am very passionate about halloween costumes. That being said, I’m very tired of seeing the same costumes every year. Where is the creativity? If you are struggling to find a good idea for your costume, you’re in luck. I’ve taken it upon myself to compile a list of costumes for couples, friends, and individuals to avoid (because they are overdone) and costumes that I would love to see this year.
Couples Beware!
These are costumes I do not want to see from you and your boo (pun definitely intended).
Space Jam (Bugs and Lola)
Every couple who I have seen do this costume have broken up so take that as you will.
Jim and Pam (The Office)
This one just lacks the creativity that Halloween demands.
Sandy and Danny
A classic couple, but everyone and their grandma has seen this costume before. It’s time to spice things up and do something different!

Steve and Robin’s Scoop’s A-hoy Outfits (Stranger Things)
Steve and Robin may not have ended up together in the series, but this costume is still iconic. If you don’t want to buy the actual costume, you and your bae could just wear all blue with a sailor hat and a neck scarf. Make sure to make name tags so people know who you are!
Daphne and Velma/ The Mystery Gang
This one can be modified based on you and your partner’s preference. These costumes would be so easy to replicate and would turn out so cute! Think Daphne/ Velma or Velma/Shaggy or Fred/ Daphne. Could also easily be a group costume.
Princess Peach and Mario
(Or princess peach and daisy) This is such an underrated costume idea. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a couple do this one before. Easily replicated on Amazon or from your closet!
Don’t be basic…
Not that basic is bad, but you don’t want to have the same costume as everyone else. Here are some costumes I think will be overdone this year.
Harley Quinn
A popular costume every year since the original Suicide Squad movie was released. Since the new Suicide Squad movie was recently released, you can expect to see a lot of Harleys this year.
Euphoria (Maddy, Jules, Cassie)
These costumes have had their time to shine already. I vote we leave these in 2020.
Space Cowgirls
I love a good space cowgirl moment, but this halloween is not that moment.
Frat Boys
This one is too easy. You should at least put some effort into your costume this year.

Cupid
This is easily one of my favorites on this list. Wear all red (dress, shirt, whatever you want) and carry around a bow and arrow. Don’t forget your wings!
Hannah Monatana
Name a better way to relieve your childhood. This would be an easy costume to make from your closet or order off of amazon. Make sure you carry around a microphone and sing “He Could Be the One” and “Nobody’s Perfect” to make sure people know who you are.
Fairy
This is such a timeless costume, I could never be mad at it. Make sure you are looking cute and don’t forget your wings.
Megamind
This one is for my friends who are the life of the party. If you can pull off this costume you are elite. Paint yourself blue and wear a cape, and viola! You’re all set to take on the night.
Besties please don’t wear these…
Every pair of girls has worn at least one of these costumes with their besties at least once, or has known someone who has.
Angel and Devil
A classic costume, but you won’t be winning any contests with this one. It can be cute if done correctly, but it isn’t original.
Girl Scouts
This one was cute for about a year but it’s appeal has died down. I don’t want to dress like a 12 year old and neither should you.
Powerpuff Girls
This one is controversial. This is typically a cute costume, but I’m just tired of seeing them.
Boxers or Victoria Secret Angels
Once again, another overdone costume. Come on, there are so many better options.
The Purge
The masks, the button downs, and the bloodstains are getting old. These costumes should be left in 2013 with the original movie.

Please, please, please wear these. So iconic.
OuterBanks (Sarah, Kie, John B, etc.)
This entire costume could be thrifted or thrown together from your closet. Go find some lost treasure while you’re at it. #P4L
Greek Goddesses
This can be as high effort or as low effort as you make it. A perfect excuse to look fabulous and have a good time while doing it!
Tinkerbell and her friends
Another costume that can be ordered off amazon. Each friend can pick which fairy matches their personality best, or by their favorite color. This would be such a cute group costume.
Updated Disney Princesses
Just like our childhood princess dresses but with a more grown up twist! Just wear the colors that match your princess. A super easy costume with adorable results.
Willy Wonka and Oompa Loompas
Think about how iconic this group costume would be. Make sure your willy has the sunglasses and a coat and that your Oompa Loompas have suspenders. Could be a fun wig moment as well.
