Why Don’t We were formed in 2016. The group consists of five members: Corbyn Besson, Jack Avery, Johan Marais, Zach Herron, and Daniel Seavey. They first started out as solo musicians posting covers on social media sites like Vine, Youtube etc. Both Jack Avery and Daniel Seavey were on America’s Got Talent at different time periods. But once they formed Why Don’t We, That is when they started to gain more attention and more of fans’ interests.
Growing up they all should interest in music and had families who would introduce them to different types of music during their youth. Their first single was Taking You. This is where the fanbase or fandom got their name Limelights because of the Lyrics of the song, “I need you in my life like limelight”.
In the fall of 2018, Why Don’t We released an autobiography called Why Don’t We: In The Limelight. One of my favorite takeaways from the book was when the band said that it is okay to be different and show off who you are. This was brought up because they were each called out during their younger years in school for having this interest in music when their town focused on other things like football, wilding, etc. The fact that the band members of Why Don’t We ignored the negative feedback that their peers and other people in their community give me hope for others who might feel left out, alone or isolated because of the things that they like and take interest in. also during this year, they released their Freshman Album called 8 Letters. In my opinion, the songs have messages pertaining to mental health, relationships, and communicating with other people. But that’s just my opinion we each have our own takeaways when it comes to music and what we hear.
They have had a single written by Ed Sheeran: What Am I, which is one of my favorite songs. What Am I was released in the fall of 2019 as a part of their 1 song a month each month for a year. They also had a traveling Pop Up Shop with What Am I merch and the fans had a chance to win a private inclusive show with the band.
During the fall of 2020, Why Don’t We released their single Fallin’. Which was completely different from their past stuff and I loved it. It was more rock and there were a lot of drums and guitars involved and it showed a whole new edge to their music that I have not seen before and that I hope to see more of. After releasing their sophomore Album title The Good Times and The Bad Ones in January of 2021, I saw and heard some major hits like Slow Down, Lotus Inn, Grey, and Love Song.
Recently the Boy’s of Why Don’t We have come back onto the scene after having some trouble with a manager who was physiologically abusive. After being able to regain control of their own careers and handle that situation the Boy’s of Why Don’t We were able to release the song Love Back. Which is incredibly catchy and has drumbeats that appeal to the human ear and makes your foot want to tap with the rhythm of the song.
