Name: Daisy Burroughs Hometown: Columbia, SCDegree: Mass Communication – Broadcast

Where do you work and what is your position?

I currently work as a reporter for CN2 News in Rock Hill. I am also the Marketing Assistant for Piedmont Medical Center and the Digital Marketing Coordinator for Simply Creative Works.

What is your favorite thing about Winthrop?

My favorite thing about Winthrop is the vast number of opportunities available to each and every student. With a little effort and faith, each student can reach and surpass their wildest dreams!

Were you involved on campus?

Yes. During my Winthrop experience, I served as the 2013 Homecoming Queen, President of the Xi Beta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated, Student Coordinator for Leadership Initiatives, Peer Mentor, Orientation Leader, Resident Assistant, Family Orientation Leader, President of the National Residence Hall Honorary, Emerging Leader and a Winthrop Ambassador.

As a recent graduate of Winthrop University, what is it like having a career?

Being on my own with a job as a recent graduate has kept me just as busy, if not busier, than being involved on campus and I wouldn’t have it any other way. It takes drive, determination and dedication to succeed even though things don’t go as planned. I’m not where I thought I would be after graduation, but I’m happy. I’m elated for the experiences and learning opportunities that God has brought me to and that He is taking me through.

Do you have any advice for college students?

They should expect to be challenged after graduation. My advice would be to roll with the punches and know that your life has prepared you for this!

If there was one thing you wish you knew when you were a freshman in college, what would it be and why?

One thing I wish I knew as a freshman is how to truly let certain people and not-so-great experiences go. We spend WAY too much time thinking about other people’s opinions and not enough time on how to best propel our goals closer to being achieved.

What was your most memorable moment at WU?

My most memorable was on February 13, 2012 when I changed my major from the College of Education to the College of Arts and Sciences. Taking that leap of faith was the best decision I could have made.

Where do you hope to be in five years?

I hope to still feel challenged to succeed and open-minded enough to understand that “all I have seen teaches me to trust the Creator for all I have not seen.” There are a multitude of opportunities out there, we just have to be willing to find them and see them through.

Thank you so much for your interview Daisy!
