It’s no secret that we love our school — we are proud to be eagles! However, being an eagle comes along with quite a few struggles. If you are a student here at Winthrop, you’ll know what I mean.
1. You have no idea how to dress for class because Rock Hill weather is bipolar. When you wake up to go to your 8 a.m., it’s 40 degrees and by 10 a.m. it’s 84. How are you supposed to plan your outfit for the day? Leggings or shorts? Boots or sandals? Mother nature, get it together.
2. Driving to class from Thomson to Johnson because you are just too lazy to walk across campus. Although it might be exercise, it’s just too much of a hike especially at 8 a.m. Especially when all of your classes are clear across campus.
3. When you run out of cafe cash. Too much Papa Johns.
4. The 50 mile line at Starbucks. All you want is an iced coffee before your 3:30 class, but the line goes into the bookstore. Sorry political science, you’re going to have to wait. Priorities.
5. Winthrop worms. You find random green worms in your hair, your jacket, on your backpack or even on the back of the shirt on the girl that sits in front of you. They’re everywhere and they come out in the spring. Prepare yourself now.
6. Trains. Yeah that train track that runs right through campus isn’t annoying at all– especially at 6 a.m.
7. Napping in the ampitheater and on Scholars. Sometimes it’s just too much effort to walk back to your bedroom and sleep before your next class. This is college and we get it. No judgment.
8. The AC in dorms. Since the air vent automatically switches due to the air temperatures outside, you will most likely invest in a fan because when it’s 60 degrees outside during the night, you will be sweating in your room because the heat will kick on.
9. The fire alarm going off at 2 a.m. because somebody burnt cookies. Two questions here: Why are you making cookies at 2 a.m.? And how can you not make cookies?
