“Spoopy” season is just around the corner! We all LOVE Halloween. The costumes, the candy, the decorations… What could be better? As someone whose favorite holiday is Halloween, you’d think I wouldn’t have any problems with it, but there is one little thing that stands in my way every October… Scary Movies. I am a real life scaredy cat.
So, for those of you who are like me, here’s a list of 21 of the BEST Halloween movies that are free of jump scares and paranormal activity!
1. Shaun of the Dead
Zombies can be terrifying, but in this British film, they’re dead funny.
2. Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
This musical features a barber that prefers to cut throats.
3. The Little Vampire
We knew kids could be brats, but did we know they could turn into bats?
4. Scary Movie series
Who doesn’t love making fun of what they’re too scared to watch?
5. Frankenweenie
Because dogs are still better than people, even when they’re dead.
6. ParaNorman
Who needs a pun when there’s one in the title? (Get it? Paranoid? Paranormal? ParaNorman?)
7. The Rocky Horror Picture Show
This musical makes you do the “Time Warp” all the way back to the ‘70s.
8. Scooby Doo
I’m sure they would’ve gotten away with it too, if it weren’t for these meddling kids.
9. Monster House
I wouldn’t trick-or-treat there.
10. Haunted Mansion
They have 999 happy haunts, but there’s room for 1,000… Any volunteers?
11. Coraline
Creepy, but in a good and thoughtful way.
12. Corpse Bride
“There’s been a grave misunderstanding.”
13. Twitches
Admit it, you always wanted to be one.
14. Casper
He’s such a friendly ghost, you gotta have him on here, but you can’t have one without the other, so…
15. Casper Meets Wendy
Casper may have gotten a little too friendly in this one.
16. The Addams Family
Ba da da dum *snap snap*!
17. Beetlejuice
BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE!
18. Ghostbusters
Who ya gonna call?
19. Nightmare Before Christmas
You can’t not have this on the list. I mean, this is Halloween, after all.
20. Hocus Pocus
Most of you are probably mad that this isn’t number one. I get it, it’s an AMAZING movie. But there is one more (or a few more) that I haven’t mentioned, like….
21. Halloweentown series
These are the films that made me love Halloween. Without them, it wouldn’t be my favorite holiday. Oh, and if anyone wants to experience Halloweentown in real life, St. Helen’s, Oregon turns into Halloweentown every October! Who’s coming with me?
BONUS:
It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
Since it isn’t a movie, I didn’t include it in the list, but it’s a must-watch for my family and I. I hope you scaredy cats and crybabies enjoy these films as much as I do!
I hope these movies get you in a spook-tastic mood and get ready for the BEST holiday of the year!
