Why You Should Go to the International Dinner at WSU

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Winona chapter.

The International Dinner at Winona State University is fast approaching! What I’ve always wondered, and I’m sure fellow students have been curious about as well, is what exactly is the International Dinner? I had the opportunity to ask a friend and contributor to this event, Sid Grover, a few questions about what to expect and why it’s a great event to attend.

The International Dinner is an annual event put on by the International Student & Scholar Services Office on campus. The goal is to celebrate the diversity of our students and learn about their cultures. The International Dinner highlights both the similarities and differences we may find all around the world.

The event will be held on Saturday, April 6 in the East Hall of Kryzsko Commons from 6-8 p.m. (doors will open at 5:30 p.m.). Be sure to get there early so you and your friends can all sit together!

I know how much college students love free entertainment and free food, but don’t be turned away by the price of this event! For just $13.00 as a student (or $16.00 for the general public), you can experience traditional dishes from different countries, various cultural performances, and even a photo booth! If you’re still not convinced, the proceeds this year will be donated to feedONE, a charitable organization that is fighting to end world hunger. Your ticket alone could feed one child in the program for an entire month!

This will be a great opportunity to expand your horizon and you don’t have to cook. It’s not only a dinner, but an entire experience—a win-win, if you ask me.

The theme this year is “Let’s Celebrate,” so come and be a part of the celebration! If you’re interested in purchasing a ticket, you can head to the International Student & Scholar Services Office in Kryzsko Commons, or you are welcome to contact Sid Grover and he will be sure to help you out. Act fast before tickets sell out!

Here is a testimonial from Sid regarding the event:

“This is going to be my third time helping and planning the International Dinner; and I am more than excited, as it will be different from previous dinners, and more fun, too. It’s the perfect break for everybody and it’s going to have great food and great performances.”

If you think this sounds like something you’d like to be involved in planning next year consider joining the International Club and finding your community today!
