Well, here it is: Inauguration Day. Donald Trump won the 2016 election and will now take office as America’s 45th President. This article isn’t going to be about Trump winning the election, or how people are still upset about him winning, because I am tired of talking about politics and people getting defensive about views that differ from their own. Instead, this article is about the inauguration itself and what it entails.

Many Americans might think that once the president-elect is done saying the oath that the Inauguration Day is over, but it’s not. This “celebration” is a three-day-long event with many components filling the schedule. This year many artists declined Trump’s invitation to perform at the inauguration because of their personal views about the president-elect, but there are still going to be performances by Jackie Evancho (America’s Got Talent alumna winner), the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, the Radio City Rockettes, and the Talladega College marching band.

The order of events:

THURSDAY, JAN. 19, 2017

  • To start the day, Donald Trump and Mike Pence will attend a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.

  • Later that night a welcome concert will be held at the Lincoln Memorial.

FRIDAY, JAN. 20, 2017: INAUGURATION DAY

  • The day starts at 9:30 a.m. with the inaugural swearing-in ceremony at the U.S. Capitol Building where the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Jackie Evancho will perform.

  • Immediately after the ceremony, the Inaugural Parade will take place where Trump, Pence, and their families will walk from the steps of the Capitol Building to the White House.

  • During the parade, both the Radio City Rockettes and the Talladega College marching band will perform.

  • At 7 p.m. the Inaugural Ball starts at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center where Trump and his family will make an appearance, and the Salute to Our National Armed Services Ball will be held at the National Building Museum.

SATURDAY, JAN. 21, 2017

  • A national prayer service will be held at the Washington National Cathedral.

If you plan on watching this “historical” inauguration, it will be broadcasted live on every major news network. If you want to be there in person you can buy tickets to get into special viewing areas such as the inauguration or the parade.
