This March 22 is National Goof Off Day, a day where we are encouraged to put down our work, relax and have a little fun. In honor of this day, I’ve decided to make a short list of songs I believe help us (but mostly me) take our minds off the world. These songs came straight from my Liked Songs playlist on Spotify, so I have definitely had them playing in the background as I was goofing off at some point in time.

1. “The Lazy Song” by Bruno Mars

This song is literally the epitome of goofing off. It encourages us to just kick our feet up and not care what anyone thinks. Sometimes all you need is a day where you can say “Today I don’t feel like doing anything.”

2. “Go Crazy” by Chris Brown and Young Thug

Ok, disclaimer: I am not a fan of Chris Brown, and this song is rather dirty, but nevertheless it’s a total bop—at least in my opinion. I feel this song is perfect for National Goof Off Day because it reassures us that “Ain’t nobody watchin’” so we should just “go crazy”! So, forget about your worries and responsibilities for a little while and just enjoy life.

3. “Young Dumb & Broke” by Khalid

This song has total lie out on the beach and stare up at the sky through thick, dark sunglasses without a care in the world vibes. I don’t think you could find a chiller song. It tells us to embrace the moment because “What’s fun about commitment? / When we have our life to live.”

4. “Shower” by Becky G

While this song sounds like it would be blasted on full volume from a tween’s ipod, it provides the perfect childish theme song we need to take our mind off the adult world. Why stress out when you could be “…dancing in the mirror and singing in the shower”?

5. “Make Me Feel” by Janelle Monáe

Overall, this song emphasizes feeling “So real, so good, so f*ckin’ real”—definitely a feeling goofing off can provide. With it’s 70s flare, this song provides a funky beat to loosen up to.

6. “La La Land” by Bryce Vine

The title pretty much says it all—and that’s just where this song will take you. You’ll throw your to-do list out the window as Vine slickly entices, “Hey baby, waste your time with me in California.”

7. “Do It” by Chloe X Halle

This song will likely get stuck in your head, but in the best possible way. It will make you crave the routine you do when getting ready for a night on the town. You’ll want to dress up, put on a little makeup and take a few cute pictures. Why not spend your day getting dressed up for no reason? Lots of people do it, “And you can do it too.”

8. “Feel Good Inc.” by Gorillaz

I’ll be honest, I’m not entirely sure what this song is about. At first glance, the lyrics don’t make much sense, but after a quick Google search, I know they mean something much deeper and darker, but exactly what is the question. Nevertheless, the mischievous and punk-rock beat of this song may encourage you to stray away from tradition and make you “Sha, sha-ba-da, sha-ba-da-ca, feel good.”

Here are just a few songs that help me take my mind off my troubles. If you are celebrating National Goof Off Day, maybe consider adding some of these songs to a playlist or make your own inspired by relaxation, feeling good, or having a great time to help you goof off on March 22!
