Kindness (n): the quality of being friendly, generous and considerate.
“We have to make kindness the norm, not the exception.” The vice president of The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation, Brooke Jones, said this in response to a question asked regarding how she thought we can change the world. Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) celebrates World Kindness Day on Nov. 13 this year by inviting everyone to make kindness the norm,\ and almost second nature in our lives. If a stranger is rude to us on the street, we usually just brush it off and think that they’re having a bad day.
Although that may be true, that does not give them the right to treat others poorly. Kindness can start with one person and end up affecting thousands! Just one smile or one compliment can brighten a person’s day, which can cause them to show kindness toward others and then an avalanche of kindness will fall and cover many.
Kindness is in everyone, but most people just need a little help to unlock that. That little help could be from the smallest child to the eldest adult. Start being kind today and set off that snowball to become an avalanche surrounding you!
Check out the RAK website to see how else you can be kind on Nov. 13 (and every day!).
“Always try to be nice, but never fail to be kind.”
