Grilled Cheese Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Winona chapter.

There is evidence out there that indicates that grilled cheese sandwiches originated in the 1920s. This was obviously due to the fact that bread and cheese became readily available . . .  and thank god it did. Who doesn’t love a good grilled cheese now and again? If you’re not a fan, think again because there are many ways to make this delicious sandwich. Here’s a list of a few grilled cheese sandwiches that are sure to make your mouth water:

1.     Dark Chocolate & Parmesan Grilled Cheese

What? Gross. No. Believe it or not, this food pairing has been scientifically proven to go well together. The odd mix makes the perfect combination of salty and savory.

2.     Bacon Guacamole Grilled Cheese

“That’s going to be an extra charge, is that okay?” Duh. Guac is everything. But have you ever tried adding it to things other than your Chipotle? I have, and it doesn’t disappoint. Add some to your grilled cheese for a cool combination of flavor. Adding bacon will give the sandwich a rare combination of textures that I’m sure you don’t want to miss.

3.     Beet, Arugula & Goat Grilled Cheese

Do you want to wow the crowd? This will do it. A splash of elegance that was easier than H-E- double hockey sticks to make. Yeah, try it!

4.     Broccoli, Bacon & Mustard Grilled Cheese

Get rid of the leftovers with this one. Bacon is a topping that isn’t just salty, but also has a nice crunch. Broccoli, on the other hand, can have a nice crunch too, but if cooked right it’ll contrast with the bacon. It doesn’t have much taste otherwise, but it is nutritious!

5.     Kraft American Singles Grilled Cheese

Bringing back the OG. Pair with some tomato soup and you’ll feel better. I promise.

Now go make yourself a scrumptious grilled cheese because it’s National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day! Happy eating!
