The Emotions of Game Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Winona chapter.

Football season is finally here and throughout Sunday (or Monday or Thursday) fans can experience a whole magnitude of emotions. Here are some:

Excitement because it’s GAME DAY!!! Your team is playing (unless they have a bye) and you have every right to be just as excited as Jim Harbough.

Confusion when your team calls a really bad play. Sometimes really bad calls happen at the wrong time. Patriots and Seahawks Super Bowl, anybody?

Anticipation that the most stressful moments of the game will happen in the last two minutes. Yeah there might be a few amazing catches or a great return, but somehow the last two minutes of the game, when your team is down and they need a touchdown to win, are the most stressful times for fans.

Anger if your team loses. It is unrealistic to think that your team will win every single game but after being so emotionally invested in a game it is alright to feel angry that your team lost, especially if they blew a huge lead.

OR

Overwhelming joy if your team wins. Your team was victorious and now it is up to you to celebrate. Maybe smacking your head against a player’s helmet isn’t the smartest thing, but he sure seems excited.

Heartbreak because the day is over. If it is an early game you still have an opportunity to watch some more games, but you are not as emotionally invested because it’s not your team. But cheer up because there is always next week!
