The hourly countdown for midterm elections is on and MSUSA is spreading the EAT.SLEEP.STUDY.VOTE message like wildfire to get students excited about voting and understand the importance of fulfilling their civic duty.Â
…But wait, what the heck is MSUSA? After a little investigative research and an interview with a WSU campus coordinator, Tyler Stern, I found out exactly what MSUSA is and why it is so important that we listen to their messages.
MSUSA, Minnesota State University Student Association, is a non-partisan organization on campus that represents the student body on a governmental level. They do not urge students to take certain sides on any issues, instead their mission is to represent student interests and inform students of what is going on in the State, Federal and MNSCU system. MNSCU, Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, is a state system and seven Minnesota colleges are apart of it. Our MSUSA members act like the middlemen between the student body and the MNSCU system, Federal government and Minnesota legislature. They help represent our interests, and then act on the information to spread awareness on certain issues to and for the student body.
Currently, MSUSA’s biggest concern is spreading the word on midterm elections taking place tomorrow. On November 4, voters will hit the polls and some big changes will be made in the national, state, and local government. All eight of Minnesota’s U.S House senate seats are up, as well as Minnesota governor, attorney general, secretary of state, state auditor, and all of the Minnesota State House seats. Locally the election will also include county commissioners, county sheriffs, county attorneys, auditors, treasurers and recorders.  So, make it your civic duty to make informed and knowledgeable decisions when heading to the polls tomorrow!
MSUSA facts:• We pay for the organization• Students are welcomed and encouraged to attend MSUSA events and help spread their message• A current goal they aim to achieve is lobbying to have the government help fund $300 TPA testing fee for education students
Voting facts:• Every time you move you need to re-register• Registration can be done at the polls• In Minnesota if you do not have your license or do not know the last 4 digits of your social security and your roommate is registered they can take an oath for you, which would allow you to legally vote.• Not sure if you’re registered to vote? Check it out: https://mnvotes.sos.state.mn.us/VoterStatus.aspx
Follow the lead of your MSUSA committee and celebrities everywhere and ROCK THE VOTE on Tuesday, Nov. 4.Â
