Confidence is Key: 5 Dates to Go On By Yourself

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Winona chapter.

Being single myself, I am well aware that it takes some creativity to come up with things to do that aren’t necessarily with a significant-other. The nice thing about it is that there is no need to compromise with or accommodate another person! It’s all up to you where you want to go and/or what you want to do. Here is a list of some of my go-to dates I take myself or my single friends on:

  • Go to one of your favorite coffee shops or try a new one!

It’s always nice to treat yourself to your favorite drink, read a book, draw, or even be productive, as long as it’s something that makes you feel good! Plus, it allows you to explore and get to know the coffee shops and/or cafés in your area.

  • Take yourself to a free or affordable museum.

Depending on where you are and your age, there are great deals on art and history museums of all kinds. The Walker Art Museum in Minneapolis, MN is free to youth 18 years old and younger, otherwise, make sure to check for student rates wherever you may be. Plus, if you’re on your own, you don’t have to be worried about holding someone up looking at art or an exhibit-you can take as long as you need!

  • Treat yo-self day.

Sometimes, all you need is to take a bath or shower, put on a face mask, paint your nails, and curl up in your dorm with a book or a movie and snacks. These days are important not only because you deserve it, but to help you feel more prepared and put together for the days ahead.

  • Go for a walk.

As the weather gets nicer and warmer, the more likely we are to want to be outside soaking up the sun! Take a hike at a local park or even just a stroll around your block. Walks are therapeutic and just overall pleasant. Be present in your surroundings! You never know what you’ll notice.

  • Try a new recipe and invite friends to test it out!

Is there a dish that you’ve always wondered if you could make? Now is your chance to experiment! I have personally tried this, and it was surprisingly successful! Even if it isn’t, it makes for a good laugh if it flops. Check out this link for some easy recipe options!
