We’ve all been there… your professors load up on papers, projects, and tests all at once. It seems almost as if they came up with some evil plot to make everyone want to get on a plane and never return. You stress out for weeks leading up to it, trying to plan ahead and time everything out perfectly so you get it all done on time. Then there is the person sitting next to you in class who you judge because they haven’t started on it until the night before, or in severe cases, only a few hours before its due. Better yet, they aren’t even crying and running for the hills. Truth is, I am one of those people who probably bother the living hell out of you. I am what they like to call a procrastinator. I probably have one of the most extreme cases of it. I can’t help it, it’s just in my nature. On behalf of anyone else who can relate and myself – stop judging! We are all different and all succeed in our own ways. I’ll give you some insight on why procrastination makes me so successful, so maybe those of you with the judgey eyes can cut us some slack.
1. I’m Optimistic
Optimism is defined as “hopefulness and confidence about the future or the successful outcome of something.” I’m hopeful that I will always get my work done and confident that it will be good quality work, as well. Even though I start later on things than other people, I know the outcome of my work can still be successful. Us who procrastinate are just being positive. We don’t need your “glass is half empty” speech, because ours is still all the way full.
2. I Work Best Under Stress
Call me crazy, but it’s true… I actually LIKE to be in stressful situations. This is when I do my best work, when I have a short time period left. Honestly, I get an adrenaline rush and can’t stop once I know I’m down to the wire. I understand how other people take the full two weeks, or whatever amount of time is given, but that’s just not my thing. So please don’t get mad at us and roll your eyes if we get an ‘A’ on an assignment that we started the night before and you started weeks before. I’m sorry?
3. I Am BUSY
Let’s be real… we are ALL busy. We have jobs, clubs, social lives, etc. I personally am very active on campus, with two jobs, a decent load of credits, and sometimes I enjoy a nap if I’m lucky enough to fit one in. School is a priority to me just as much as a job or club is. If us procrastinators aren’t worrying about it, then you don’t have to either.
4. Sometimes Things Come Up…
I am one of those people who really hate to say no to any situations. I hate missing out on making memories. I mean, they say this is the time of our lives, so I want to make as many memories as possible while I have the privilege of attending this wonderful university. Sometimes I just want to go out with my girlfriends, have a drink, and forget about all the chaos going on in my life. As the over used saying goes…. YOLO.
