College Parties: Expectations vs. Realities

As a freshman in college you hear all about the numerous parties that happen and how “lit” they are, but as you continue your education throughout the years you come to realize that these parties aren’t as cracked up as you thought they would be. Here are five expectations and realities of parties as told by a college student.

1. Getting ready

EXPECTATION: You spend close to an hour on your hair and makeup so that it’s 100% perfect. You also help your roommates pick their outfits, and vice versa, which can add another 20 minutes to your getting-ready time.

REALITY: By the time you get home you’re a sweaty mess with smudged mascara and random people’s drinks that have been spilled on you.

2. Hosting parties

EXPECTATION: You think that hosting parties would be easy and people would take care of their own drinks/garbage.

REALITY: You wake up to find the disastrous mess from the night before that you’ll have to clean up.

3. Going to parties

EXPECTATION: You think that going to frat/house parties will be fun.

REALITY: The fun ends as soon as you see that you have to pay to get in (frat houses generally) and when you see the ocean of people in that basement that you’ll have to navigate your way through.

4. “Small get-together”

EXPECTATION: When you tell people that you’re having a small get-together they’ll understand that you mean 10-15 people.

REALITY: Your friends bring their friends and so on and so on, turning your smallish group into an overload of random people.

5. The next day

EXPECTATION: You have a mild headache but that’s okay because once the Ibuprofen kicks in you’ll be so productive.

REALITY: You look and feel like death, and nothing will be accomplished due to the massive headache you have.

I love exploring the outdoors, writing, whales, and have a major sweet tooth for cheesecake! Volleyball and hockey are my favorite sports to play and watch. When it comes to writing, I love it. I truly enjoy being able to write articles and stories about topics people would enjoy reading.
