Caution: this article contains the word ‘pumpkin’ a lot.
Fall is the season of changing leaves, cool breezes, Halloween, and of course pumpkin everything. Once the first leaf falls it seems like every store, coffee shop, and bakery brings out their pumpkin recipes, but is that necessarily a bad thing? Absolutely not. People who don’t have a pumpkin passion tend to get a little angry when places like Starbucks or Caribou bring back Pumpkin Spice Lattes in September rather than October, but a vast majority of us literally jump with excitement because that means PSL will be around for a little while longer!
When it comes to creating recipes with pumpkin the options are endless. From pumpkin spice lattes to pumpkin spice-flavored Extra gum, who knows what will be created next. But before we get into new pumpkin creations, let’s talk about what has already been done. First, pumpkin spice lattes (PSL), probably the most famous and well-known pumpkin beverage to “basic” girls around the country. Starbucks created this staple drink in 2003 and it has graced our country every Fall since then. Super delicious and very fall-like, a pumpkin spice latte or two is something you can never go wrong with.
Another creation that is starting to become more popular is roasted pumpkin seeds. Every Halloween my family and I roast pumpkin seeds; they’re so good! How can you go wrong with pumpkin seeds? Well, you can’t really, unless you burn them…then you’ve done something wrong. The best part about them is that you can season them however you please! From sea salt to cayenne pepper or cinnamon to ranch seasonings, the options are even more endless, and they’re amazing for your health. So like I said before, can you really go wrong?
Lastly, let’s talk about pumpkin soup. Sounds interesting right? It is definitely way different than any other typical pumpkin recipe, but it’s very delicious. It’s the classic fall dinner, but the best part is you taste the pumpkin’s natural flavor that a pumpkin is supposed to have (no artificial flavors here folks). If you’ve ever had butternut squash soup, then there is a very good chance that you’ll enjoy pumpkin soup just as much.
As soon as the weather changes from super-hot and 90 degrees to mid-60s and a little brisker, it’s officially pumpkin season. Year after year the staple pumpkin recipes return and new creations make their debut for everyone to try. Yes, it might seem as if pumpkin-flavored things are way overdone, but what’s Fall without pumpkin? For those of you who are not pumpkin fans, I urge you to try something pumpkin-y and for everyone else who loves pumpkin-flavored anything, there isn’t much time left before pumpkin-flavored drinks turn into candy cane- and eggnog-flavored drinks. Get your pumpkin fix while you can!
