Reading period is over, and midterms are done. Phew. This exam season has been extremely stressful for me, and odds are, it has been for many others too. Although I am not looking forward to getting grades back in the near future, these next few weeks present a new opportunity to assess what went wrong and fix it. To enter the next exam season with a smile—or at least not a frown—here are some tips to help you with the next stretch of school:

  1. Take a deep breath. No matter what happened, you are in a new part of the year. There are opportunities and experiences waiting for you just around the corner. You’ve got this.
  2. What went wrong? Now that you are in a positive mindset, it’s time to look back and reflect. Are any of your classes giving you more trouble than you expected? Are certain studying methods not working? Are you having trouble balancing work, social life, and activities?
  3. Time to fix it. At this point, you should have a pretty good grasp on what you need to improve. Work at it systematically by proposing concrete and doable solutions. For example, if the organic chemistry class you underestimated is way too hard, check out the tutoring resources Williams offers or create a study group with friends. You can also talk to other people with similar problems, or schedule an appointment with the IWS.
  4. Checkpoint: How are you feeling about these solutions? If you are confident, go ahead and acheive them! If not, feel free to modify them until you find what works for you.

Now that you recognize whatever problems you may have had and know how to go about solving them, these next few weeks will pass by a lot more smoothly. Prepare to repeat these during Thanksgiving break! See you then!
