Congratulations! You’ve officially survived the first half of the spring semester and made it to spring break! With two weeks off and no more essays to write or course packets to read, you just have so much extra time on your hands. So go and enjoy your time, kick back with some friends, practice some of your favorite hobbies, and listen to the newest songs smashing on the radio. That is, until you get bored with the unknown and foreign concept of free time that has just hit you square in the face. Now, I could give you a list of things for you to try out to ease the mindless lull you will be pulled into as boredom takes over your vacation, but I believe there is only one tried and true method of killing boredom and that is: watching a phenomenal movie. I am going to list a few things for you to watch over your break when the days seem to drag on and the monotony looms heavy over you. In no particular order, here are 5 movies you should watch over spring break:

  1. Baby Driver

This is an action packed film that will have you on the edge of your seat for the entire movie. Car scenes, gun scenes, money scenes, and drug scenes–this movie has it all in an unpredictable and fast-paced plot. Featuring Ansel Elgort, Jamie Foxx, and other famous actors/actresses, this cast will have you on your toes in an irresistible thrill-packed movie. Spend an hour and fifty-five minutes watching this movie on Hulu and you cure your boredom, replacing it with heart-thumping anticipatory excitement.

  1. The Martian

This is a riveting sci-fi drama starring Matt Damon that will have you questioning your morality. This film is an adaptation of Andy Weir’s award-winning novel. For two hours and twenty-four minutes you will, no doubt, be holding back tears, anxiously yearning in anticipation, and clenching a pillow in frustration as you follow a botanist’s life on Mars. You won’t find a dull moment in the movie as you attentively watch to see if Damon’s character will survive on Mars.

  1. Red Notice

This hilarious comedy will have you holding your sides as you double over, laughing so hard you start to cry. Starring Ryan Reynolds, Dwayne Johnson (The Rock), and Gal Gadot this fantastic trio will have you snorting and giggling at funny punchlines throughout the entire movie. It follows a relatively complex storyline in which  an art thief and a detective become unlikely partners in an international art heist. Plot twists will make it entertaining far beyond just the witty jokes. It’s available on Netflix and will relieve you of your boredom for one hour and fifty-seven minutes.

  1. A Walk to Remember

A tear-jerking romance adaptation from a classic Nicholas Sparks book, this one is an oldie but a goodie. If you haven’t seen it, I guarantee it will have your stomach fluttering and your heart hoping for a relationship even half as good as the one portrayed by Mandy Moore and Shane West in the film. This classic romantic fairytale is all you need to keep you warm over spring break.

  1. Seaspiracy

This thought-provoking documentary presents the current issue of climate change in a new and provocative way. This film will make you rethink the way you see the climate crisis and hopefully teach you something that will help prevent the downward spiral of global warming. The film offers such knowledge in a captivating way that will have your gears turning while you watch.

So grab your popcorn, plop down in a nice comfy seat and watch your boredom away. Have a wonderful and restful spring break!
