Your Ultimate Winter Bucket List

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wilfrid Laurier chapter.

With reading week fast approaching, it’s time to celebrate the fact that we’ve made it through yet another month of university. We’ve all been so caught up in the hustle of schoolwork that we never even considered what we should do with our week off.

With this in mind, I’ve developed the Ultimate Winter Bucket List. So now, if you want to spend some quality time with your friends or simply update your IG with some new photos, you’ll be prepared to have a week of fun and bring out the adventurous side in you! That being said, let’s jump straight into the list.

1. Try your hand at skiing with some friends

Regardless of whether or not you’re an experienced skier, this would be a great opportunity to unwind and have fun! Look online and see if there are any ski resorts near you. There are plenty scattered around Ontario!

2. Purchase a coffee or hot chocolate from a local cafe

As a university student myself, I know just how hard it is to get through the day without a cup of coffee from Starbucks. But you find yourself with some free time on your hands, you should explore some local coffee shops near you! I think we can all agree that local shops are much more welcoming than some of the big coffee chains.

3. Read a book

It’s fair to say that we’ve all had to do copious amounts of textbook readings while in school, and we might still have to do more textbook readings even over reading week, but if you find yourself with some spare time you can use it as an opportunity to pick up your favourite book and relax. There’s nothing better than sitting in bed and reading a good book.

4. Go for a walk

There are plenty of hiking trails here in Ontario, you just have to go out and find some! This could be the perfect opportunity to hang out with some family and friends and simply unwind in nature. It would also be a great time to take some cute photos for the Gram!

5. Go skating

Just like skiing, you don’t necessarily have to be experienced in skating to have fun. If you don’t have a pair of skates, that’s perfectly fine because some places provide skate rentals. Personally, I’ve enjoyed going skating with friends in previous years and it’s a tradition I’m trying to revive.

6. Bake some cookies with the fam

This would be the perfect opportunity to pull out those old family recipes. If you can’t find what you’re looking for then go on Pinterest. My favourite recipe has to be the Cookies and Cream Cookies from Inside BruCrew Life on Pinterest. These cookies are amazing and super quick to make!

7. Watch or re-watch Frozen II

This doesn’t require much explanation. In my completely unbiased opinion, this had to be one of the greatest movies of all time and it’s a perfect film to watch during the winter season. Better yet, watch both Frozen I and Frozen II. You can never go wrong with that!

That wraps up the list. Seven ideas, seven days of reading week. With midterms fast approaching, just remember reading week is right around the corner. You’ve got this!
