Why It’s Better to be Single in University

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wilfrid Laurier chapter.

Whether you have recently gone through a break up or you’ve been single for what feels like eternity, here are some reasons as to why you should be grateful that you’re single. No matter your circumstances, being single in your college years is great. These are the years you get to experience new things, make new friends, and figure out who you are as your own individual person. Make the most of it!

You don’t have anyone judging you on your not-so-smart decisions.

You can do whatever the hell you want! Go ahead, and eat that entire pizza in one sitting! Go out to the bar three nights in a row! Nothing’s stopping you.

You have the whole bed to yourself, ALWAYS.

You don’t have to deal with squeezing into that twin bed, or having your partner hog all the sheets, or having him or her breathe down your neck all night. No more snoring and no more accidental elbows to the face. You get to spread out and sleep in whichever position you like, AKA you can star fish all you want. (This is the only situation where I will say that is acceptable.)

You don’t have to check in with anyone.

You’ve got your own rules now! You don’t have to worry about letting someone know when you got home from the bar, or worry if they got home safe. You have the freedom to do what you want, when you want. That’s the whole reason you moved out of your parents’ house, isn’t it?!

You can shave when YOU want.

Let that hair grow long, because you can! We all know the hassle of having to shave our legs and don’t even get me started on shaving…down there. Now you can shave whenever you feel like it and don’t have to stress about always looking presentable.

You can flirt, guilt free!

We all know Laurier is SO NOT lacking in the cuteness department. Have you seen all of the attractive people walking around campus? Take a chance, and start using those pick up lines, whether it’s in the Starbucks lines, randomly on campus, or even in the line of Phil’s. ;)

You have more time to focus on yourself.

Not only do you have more time to hang with your gal pals and have chick flick marathons, but this is also your time to figure out who you are as an individual. You have the time to find new hobbies and to go to the gym! Take those yoga classes you’ve always wanted to take. Join that club you’ve heard so much about and meet new people. This is your time to get out there and try new things. Get that full university experience!

You can wear lipstick ALL. THE. TIME.

You probably have an entire drawer full of lipsticks that you haven’t even worn once. Am I right?

You can DATE.

University is the perfect time to get those crazy first date experiences. Get on Tinder or Bumble or whatever dating app is popular these days and have some fun. Entertain your friends with all of your exciting, and sometimes weird, first date stories.

You’re young. Have some fun and live the single life to the fullest!

You will typically see me with a large cup of tea and browsing social media under the fairy lights and reading up on my favourite lady bosses (Mindy Kaling let me be you please). Also my trivia regarding superheroes is endless. I have more music than time to listen to and someone definitely should consider taking away my blogging privileges. My love for pop culture is limitless and Netflix is the true MVP in my opinion. Contributor writer for HerCampus Laurier Stalk me and let's be friends here: Insta & Twitter: webofem
