Everyone knows that one of the biggest struggles of Halloween is figuring out a costume. There are so many options and sometimes it can be overwhelming. This year, why not let the stars choose for you? Here is a list of Halloween costumes based on your astrological signs!
Aquarius (January 20 – February 18)
Aquarius’ tend to be independent and original thinkers who love helping others. They are unique and don’t let the opinions of others get them down. Disney Princess Merida from the movie Brave perfectly embodies these characteristics, making her the perfect costume for Aquarius ladies. Suit up in a teal dress, grab a bow and arrow and you’re all set! This costume is especially effective if you happen to have flowing red hair or if you grab a red wig (bonus points if you carry around a stuffed bear with you).
Pisces (February 19 – March 20)
This water sign is known for being gentle and artistic, like everyone’s favourite painting instructor: Bob Ross. Bob Ross is an indisputably lovable character and your costume is sure to be a conversation starter. There are tons of Bob Ross costume packs you can get online or at the costume store, or you can simply DIY it. This is also a great costume for couples/friends since one of you can go as a painting!
Aries (March 21 – April 19)
Aries embodies fire sign characteristics to a T; they’re courageous, confident, passionate and at times, explosive. Sound like anyone from your favourite fantasy television series? Daenerys Targaryen is an Aries if I’ve ever seen one. She is the queen of a clan of fire-breathing dragons for god’s sake. She puts the ‘fire’ in fire sign. Grab a long flowing dress and rock your hair down with her signature braids. If you don’t have long blonde hair naturally, you can opt for a wig instead. If you’re trying for a more spicy look, you can easily crop or alter the dress to show more skin. This costume will reflect your fiery personality and is sure to turn heads at any Halloween party.
Taurus (April 20 – May 20)
Taurus ladies are known for being reliable, patient and responsible; basically the definition of everyone’s designated ‘mom’ friend. They’re the ones who will take care of everyone on a night out and make sure they all arrive home in one piece. But just because they’re responsible doesn’t mean they don’t know how to have a good time. They’re not regular moms, they’re cool moms – just like Regina George’s mom from Mean Girls. Embrace your cool mom identity this Halloween by whipping out a pink velour sweatsuit and your families video camcorder. An added bonus is that this costume will keep you warm during the cool October night.
Gemini (May 21 – June 20)
This air sign is famously known for its embodiment of duality; it’s the sign of the twins after all. Showcase both sides this Halloween by going as swan lake. Grab your bestie and dress up as the black swan and the white swan, reflecting both sides of the zodiac. If you’re feeling ambitious, you can combine both into one costume, one-half black and one-half white. Grab black and white tutus and wings, and do a dark, heavy makeup look for the black swan and a light, airy look for the white swan.
Cancer (June 21 – July 22)
Cancer is a water sign which is ruled by the mood, just like the oceans and seas. Naturally, my suggestion for this sign is a mermaid costume. Mermaid costumes are timeless and you can choose a specific mermaid from your favourite show or movie, or get creative and go as your own version of a mermaid. There is lots of room for creativity in colour schemes, makeup and overall style.
Leo (July 23 – August 22)
Leo’s are confident, funny and warm-hearted; they’re natural-born leaders and are often compared to the ‘king of the jungle,’ a lion. Embrace your boss babe status and be the leader of the pack this Halloween with a killer lion costume. This costume can be done in just a few simple steps: get a nude or gold coloured dress and make or buy a pair of ears and a tail. To elevate the look, use lots of gold eyeshadow and highlight, plus dramatic winged liner, to create a glowing, cat-like look.
Virgo (August 23 – September 22)
These earth signs are practical and hardworking, approaching life with an analytic point of view. Channel your inner smarty-pants by dressing up as the beloved Hermione Granger or Velma Dinkley. These costumes will highlight your personality while still letting you feel like someone else for the night. Plus, there is tons of room for versatility! Because there are so many seasons and reboots of Scooby Doo and so many Harry Potter films, you can choose what version of your character you want to be. You can pick up a classic “Velma” turtleneck and skirt from the thrift store or you can opt for a more intricate Hermione costume that’s already pre-made.
Libra (September 23 – October 22)
Libras are known for being diplomatic and social. This air sign is ruled by Venus, who embodies feminine energy. A Greek goddess costume is the perfect costume as it embodies femininity and lightness. You can play around with this costume a little, opting for a long or short white dress, a toga or any other white ensemble you can think of. Accessorize with some jewels and a golden headband.
Scorpio (October 23 – November 21)
Despite being a water sign, Scorpios are known for being passionate, feisty and playful. They often have a dark sense of humour and like to stir the pot. So what better costume than the devil herself? This is a super easy costume, all you need is a red dress, some horns, a tail and your feisty self.
Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21)
This fire sign is represented by the centaur and is known for their great sense of humour, so of course you’re going to need a funny costume. If you mix humour with a centaur what do you get? The hormone monster from Big Mouth. Connie is a hilarious half woman-half horse hybrid and anyone who doesn’t live under a rock will be sure to get this reference.
Capricorn (December 22 – January 19)
Capricorns are hard-working and ambitious. They have goals and they aren’t afraid to put in the work to achieve them. They’re pretty much real life wonder women, so what better costume than dressing up as your favourite superhero? Go classic and rock a Wonder Woman or Captain Marvel costume, or spice it up and got for something like female Spider-Man from Into the Spiderverse. With such a huge range of superheroes to choose from, the possibilities are nearly endless.
