Tips and Tricks for Getting Back into the School Groove

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wilfrid Laurier chapter.

Summer has come and gone and although it was nice while it lasted, the school year is upon us. These are some of my best tips and tricks to get back into the school groove:

START A ROUTINE EARLY

Start by getting into your usual school routine, whether that be early morning classes or getting your eating schedule back on track — routine is a necessity to get back into school life. Set your alarm for the crack of dawn and always remember to eat breakfast to start your day off right.

 BUY A CALENDAR

Get yourself the best calendar you can find! It can be simple and small or big and bold. Keeping yourself organized with a calendar is sure to help you stay on track with the school work you’ve been missing all summer!

GO BACK-TO-SCHOOL SHOPPING

Nothing gets you back in the school groove like going shopping for all your school supplies. From the cutest dorm accessories that will get you excited to redecorate your room, to important homework supplies that will guarantee an A+, back-to-school shopping always gets you excited for school!

GET INVOLVED ON CAMPUS

Getting involved in extracurricular activities on campus will keep you active and allow you to take breaks from school work to do something fun! Taking breaks from your work is a necessity and there is no better way to do it then getting involved. Clubs like Her Campus will keep you having fun all year long!

DOWNLOAD YOUR FAVOURITE MUSIC

Nothing gets you into school mode like a great playlist. Study playlists to do your work to, chill playlists when you’re hanging out with friends and going out playlists to get you in the party mood will definitely help get you ready for everything the school year is going to throw at you.

SET GOALS FOR YOURSELF

Take a minute to write down everything you hope to achieve this school year! By doing this, you will have the constant reminder of all the great things this year has to offer. A checklist never hurt nobody — and this will help you really get into school mode and stay focused.

ALONE TIME

Lastly, remember to schedule some “me” time. School can be hard and getting back into the swing of things, after four long months of summer, can be harder. Spend some time pampering yourself: whether it’s a long hot bath and face masks or cuddling up in bed with a book, make sure you remember to take care of YOU this school year!

She later completed her Master's of English degree, where she wrote her thesis on the construction of historical memory and realism in war films. If you're looking for a recommendation for a fountain pen or dotted notebook, she should be your first line of contact.
