Soundtracks I’m Studying to This Semester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wilfrid Laurier chapter.

I’m a silent-seven-with-headphones kind of studier. I need quiet, but if I don’t have some kind of noise I can control I’ll get anxious. I seem to go through cycles of what I like to listen to while studying, and these songs are what’s in for me this season!

As you can see from the list, I prefer songs that are equal parts somber and energetic. These are the songs that make me feel like I can punch that exam in the face, but not get me hyper enough that I want to go for a run. They also don’t distract me too much from what I’m supposed to be studying.

These links are taken directly from my YouTube history, so they all work at the time of publication, and you know that I’m actually listening to them!

“Blut Und Boden (Blood and Soil)”

Honestly the entire Blackkklansman soundtrack is amazing, but this is the song I listen to the most.

“Rains Of Castamere”

Okay, so I only started watching Game of Thrones a few months ago, so this is a new song for me. If you’re distracted by lyrics while studying, you can try the instrumental version!

“House Targaryen Theme”

I’ve basically decided that Game of Thrones is king of the leitmotif because the show does it so well. This is another song that I find equal parts somber and inspiring, so great for studying.

“Stranger Things Theme Song (C418 REMIX)”

Honestly, the Stranger Things theme goes with everything. This remix gives it just a little bit more energy which makes me feel like a badass while reviewing.

“Gaelic Storm – Irish Party in Third Class + John Ryan’s Polka”

I don’t think Titanic is something a lot of us think of when it comes to studying, but it’s not all “My Heart Will Go On”!

“Orinoco Flow (Sail Away)”

Yes, this is the song from Eighth Grade, and it’s honestly underrated. The soundtrack for the film is much less cringey than the film itself, I promise.

“Mordred’s Lullaby”

This isn’t a sountdtrack in the proper sense, but it is a gorgeous song that’s inspired by Arthurian legend. Even if you don’t know the stories, it’s still totally worth the listen.

“Finale”

Once again, I’d recommend the entire Kingsman soundtrack, but if I only had to choose one song it would be this one.

“The Shape Of Water”

If this can’t boost my mood nothing can.

“The Gravel Road”

I haven’t actually seen The Village, so I can’t speak to the film. However, I know that this song is one of my go-tos!

“The Imitation Game”

The first song on the soundtrack to the film of the same title, I find this song particularly inspiring.

“Arrival of the Birds”

“However bad life may seem, there is always something you can do, and succeed at. While there’s life, there is hope.” – Stephen Hawking (and also you, no matter what happens on these exams!)

“Work Bitch”

Maybe I don’t use this to study to exactly, but I certainly listen to it in order to get the motivation for studying. Anything for you, Britney!
