So, Reading Week… What is it For?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wilfrid Laurier chapter.

I would say that attending Wilfrid Laurier University definitely has its perks. For starters, we get a Fall Reading Week only a few weeks into our first semester! Having this week right after a family filled Thanksgiving is such a sweet treat, because downtime starts right when you bite into that first slice of turkey. Mmmmmmm! Everyone views reading week differently, as some use it to binge watch Netflix, and others take the time to catch up on readings that they might have missed during those first few weeks of school. Whatever your preference is, I am here to tell you that is A-OKAY, and to give you other fun ideas in having a successful week off!

Time to Catch Up on Your Favourite Shows

It’s time for you to enjoy some much needed Netflix and chill by yourself (or with a friend). Take an hour (or 5) out of your day and catch up on your TV shows, a season, or a movie and put your feet up for some much needed R&R.

Spend Some Time with the Fam Jam

Besides sitting down with the entire family and having a delicious home cooked meal, it’s always good to spend that extra time you have with a loved one. Whether that’s catching up on what’s going on in each other’s lives, or maybe some hometown gossip, or even just going shopping together. The possibilities are endless, so enjoy the time you have!

Make Time for the Girls (or Guys)

During those first few weeks of school, you may not have had enough time to fit “hanging out with your friends” into your busy schedule. This week is the time to catch up with your friends who you can’t see all the time, to tell them how much you miss them, and to go out for a night on the town or stay in and watch a movie. Whatever you choose, it will be a great one with your BFFS.

Maybe Do Homework?

As much fun as reading week is because you don’t have to be in class, it is also useful to perhaps take the title “ reading week” literally and actually catch up on the readings that you have missed. I am not saying use your entire reading week to study, but maybe take a couple hours out of your day and prepare for those upcoming midterms or get ahead in a course. Use the extra time you have to your advantage! #success

Work for that $$$$$

Starting off a new school year may have involved you spending more money out of your pockets than you wanted to, and that’s okay! Now you have the extra time off from school to pick up some extra shifts at work and start earning back those dollar bills y’all! Working to earn more pay is always a useful way to spend your reading week.

Embrace the Season

Reading week falls right in the start of the Fall season, and what better way to show Fall some love than partaking in some activities with your friends or the fam. Going to a Fall fair, a pumpkin patch, apple picking, or even jumping in a pile of fall leaves are some fun and cheerful activities you can do on your break!

Whatever way you decide to spend your reading week, Golden Hawks, I am sure it will be time well spent!
