Seven Unusual (but Worthwhile) Subscription Boxes you can get Online

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wilfrid Laurier chapter.

Subscription boxes are a fun and easy way to expand your horizons by checking out a variety of items that you might not normally come across or purchase. There are subscription boxes for just about everything these days, including things that may not seem practical or necessary. But what’s life without a little frivolity, am I right? Here are some of the most absurd, yet intriguing, subscription boxes on the market.

Pickle of the Month

If you’re like me and love a good pickle, then this is the subscription box for you. While pickles are (arguably) not integral to everyday life, they are a delicious luxury that I choose to indulge in on a regular basis.

Pickle of the Month provides its subscribers with three types of fan-favourite pickled cucumbers, plus a tasty and unique pickled product that most people may not know exists or wouldn’t think to try on their own.

Introverts Retreat

If you’re a self-proclaimed introvert or you just love the occasional relaxing night in, Introverts Retreat can help you out. Each box comes with a book and some hand-picked goodies meant to cater to the needs of introverted women, such as candles, bath products, snacks and skin care items — basically everything you need for some quality “me time.”

Another great plus about this subscription box is that each novel is written by a female author, so you can support female writers while you kick back and relax.

Mystery Pleasure Box

When I said there was a box for everything, I meant it. While the name of this box may connote some type of mystery scavenger hunt box or a subscription to books for mystery novel enthusiasts, these are far from what Mystery Pleasure Box delivers.

Mystery Pleasure Box delivers a collection of sex and pleasure related products to spice up your bedroom life. This subscription service is great if you’re looking to test out a variety of new products, or you don’t feel comfortable checking out your local sex shop in person. You can choose from a variety of different boxes including solo male, solo female, girl/girl, boy/boy and boy/girl.

Exotic Noods

If there’s one thing I know about students, it’s that they love good noods. While the name may be comical, the noodles are seriously tasty. Exotic Noods sends subscribers a variety of different types of ramen noodles from around the world.

Students that are on a time crunch or those who are “kitchen impaired” can choose a box with noodles that just need boiling water to cook. If you’ve got more free time and want something more challenging, Exotic Noods can provide that as well. If you’re feeling like a bit of both, you can choose a package that provides you with both types of noodles. Instant ramen, that comes to your door, truly can’t get any more convenient.

Pairings Box

This subscription is for those who love to jam out while in the kitchen. Pairings Box is a vinyl subscription service created by Turntable Kitchen. Each box comes with a couple premium ingredients, a recipe, a vinyl single and a digital mixtape. If you want to take your food pairings to the next level, this is definitely the way to go.

Cryptid Crime

Cryptid Crate is a subscription box service for those interested in conspiracies and the paranormal. You’ll always be surprised with this box, since you can receive anything from t-shirts to home décor. You can expect to receive pieces related to ghosts, UFOs, bigfoot or any other spooky icons.

Escape the Crate

Escape rooms are a great way to spend times with your friends while putting your brain to work — so why not save yourself the gas and long lines by doing one in the comfort of your own home?

Escape the Crate sends its customers a new escape room in a box on a bi-monthly basis, so you can enjoy a new “time-traveling adventure” and “work with your friends to solve riddles and conquer puzzles.”

If you’re looking for a sign to treat yourself, this is it!
