Ronnie Pfeffer: Charming On and Off the Field

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wilfrid Laurier chapter.

Charming, sensitive, and incredibly talented on the football field, Ronnie “Hollywood” Pfeffer is the very definition of a Campus Celebrity! On the field you will recognize him as #37, but in the classroom Ronnie is a Sociology major currently in his fourth year.

If you could be an expert in anything what would you want it to be?

If I could be an expert in anything I would want to be an expert in helping the ones in my society. There are so many individuals around us that are struggling with problems, but they just do not know who to go to. They hide their emotions because they do not want to be ridiculed. I would like to be an expert in helping these individuals by showing them that there are others around them in the same position and that there are people who will help them.

If you were a colour, what colour would you be and why?

If I were a color I would want to be yellow because most of the time when the sun is out it brings a smile to everyone’s face and brightens their mood.

Tell us something about yourself that we might not find out in natural conversation.

One of my favourite memories has to be 7 years ago when my little niece Brooklyn was born. I will never forget my dad waking my up at 3am to go to the hospital to see her. My sister is a single mother, which gave me the responsibility of being a father figure to her [my niece].  Throughout these past few years I have encountered a lot of obstacles, but with her by my side it has pushed me to strive for success because I know she is watching every move I make.

What are your top three pieces of advice for first year students looking to get involved in sports at Laurier?

My top three pieces of advice for students who would like to get involved in sports at Laurier are:

 1) Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there, I believe very strongly in a quote that says “you always miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” so why not take a shot at what you want to do? I ask myself this question once a week “if University was over tomorrow, did I accomplish everything I came here to do? Will I regret not joining this club or this sports team?”

2) No regrets- On the Laurier football team we breathe this quote day in and day out. If you work hard, persevere and give it your all in everything you do then you should be happy with the results no matter what the end result may be. This goes for your Academics as well.

3) Be yourself – No matter what life is going to throw at you, you cannot lose sight of who you are. Anywhere you go you are going to hear people say you can’t do something or that you are not good enough. Push yourself to limits you have never gone before but never lose track of who you are. The friendships you develop here will last forever so be yourself and enjoy your experience.

What did you find most challenging in your WLU athletic career so far?

What I found most challenging in my football career here was in my second year when we decided to make a change in head coaches. Everyone on the team didn’t know what to do because for a short period of time we didn’t have a Head Coach. Questions were arising but no answers were given. It was a very difficult time to deal with when we were trying to focus on our academics but also what is going to happen with our football team. What I am most proud about is that no one lost faith. Everyone continued to work hard in the gym and when our new Head Coach came in we were ready to hit the field.

What are you most looking forward to this Football Season?

This year will be my favorite year to play on this football team. The amount of effort I have seen every individual give in that weight room has left me speechless. Going into my fourth year I have seen many players on this team develop into not only great players but great men as well. This season we need to focus one game at a time and I can’t wait to see where we can go with this.

At Laurier’s Home Opener Game this past Saturday, Ronnie blew away all expectations on the field with a total of five field goals including one 50-yard kick, breaking the record of 49 held since 1974! Be sure to check out Ronnie and the rest of your WLU Golden Hawks at this year’s Homecoming Game September 27th. Kick-off is at 1:00pm!
