Reasons Why Kim Possible is the Feminist Hero We All Need

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wilfrid Laurier chapter.

Okay, so out of all the Kim’s that are hanging around and taking the world by storm (Kim Kardashian, Kim Cattrall, Kim Jong Un, and my mom – Hi mom!), Kim Possible is probably the most underrated but most needed Kim around – sorry mom.

You might be saying, “but wait! Kim Kardashian JUST had another kid AND released a new perfume line AND you can now buy her Konture Sticks S E P E R A T E L Y!”

Okay yeah girl I know, Kim K is the dopest of the dopest, that is a fact, but that’s not what we’re talking about right now, so relax.

If you’re like me and grew up in the early, and I mean EARLY 2000s and you had access to a remote, you were probably watching Kim Possible. A smart, funny, redhead with some kickass martial arts skills?? Sign me up, please!

This girl was the reason we were all tryna climb up walls and really wanted a Blackberry when they came out – amiright.

But why should we still care about Kim P now?  We’re grown, we’re rocking our lives, she was great when we’re growing up but we don’t need her anymore, right?

Well, you’re wrong.

KP and her squad straight showed up and taught us a few lessons that are still hella relevant today:

They made it okay for women to go against the gender norms

Shego was an ultimate powerhouse in the show and showed us you can be badass and powerful – even though she was the “bad guy”, we all still wanted to be like her.

Kim P also showed us that it was okay to be girly – saving the world by night, cheering on the team by day!

The show also taught us that women can be the hero and NOT the sidekick or the damsel!

They taught just how BS the friend zone is.

Ron and Kim were the ultimate besties – sure, they got together in the end, but for the whole show before the end, they were always super supportive of each other and you could tell that Ron was really Kim’s friend and wasn’t just trying to get with her.

Ron was also there to show us that guys don’t have to be macho and you can be comfortable being yourself.

We can all still learn a lot from Kim P and with the upcoming live action movie, we can!!
