Reasons Why I Relate to the Grinch More and More as I Get Older

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wilfrid Laurier chapter.

The live-action Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas movie is a holiday classic, one that I’ve watched every year since it came out. Now that I’m an adult, I’ve been able to relate to the Grinch a little bit more as I get older. I’m still in the cave-dwelling, talking to his dog, and existing as a grouchy recluse phase, so maybe one day I’ll have his redemptive ending and come out of my room for more than a few minutes at a time.

1. We both eat too much

2. He feels the same way I do when I look through my Facebook newsfeed

3. If he can’t find something to wear, he doesn’t want to go out

4. He acts like I do when I’m trying on tight-fitting clothes

5. He always feels sorry for himself

6. He doesn’t have a strong sense of self-confidence

7. He barely socializes

8. Emotions aren’t his strong suit

9. His goals are pretty unrealistic

10. He reacts the same way I do when someone enters my room without knocking

11. His best friend is his dog

12. He acts like me when I’m lying awake in bed remembering that one embarrassing thing I did when I was 14

13. He’s me when I go out for a night and come back home

14. He has no tolerance for annoying people

15. Instead of doing anything productive, he usually does nothing instead

16. We have the same priorities when we’re trying to put something off

17. He has the same outlook that I do when I finish a test I didn’t study for
