As an autumn breeze now accompanies the summer heat, the need to pull out warmer clothes can make us all feel a little bittersweet. But there’s always a silver (or golden?) lining to every cloud; for Hawks, it’s HOMECOMING! It’s the day Laurier students have been anxiously anticipating all summer, and it is now only a few days away! Golden Hawks band together at the crack of dawn, adorned head to toe in purple and gold, to celebrate the place we all call home. Obviously, a day as special as this requires the perfect outfit and makeup. So for all those still struggling to pull something together, here is a last minute guide to the perfect homecoming getup!

Makeup

Since festivities tend to last from the early morning into the late hours of the night, it’s super important to wear long-wearing products along with a Makeup Setting Spray. This is a miracle worker and will help your makeup appear fresh and as though you just applied it all day long (even after a mid-day nap, I promise).

Since homecoming only happens once a year, why not step out of your comfort zone and do something festive with your makeup? Try a gold glitter eye shadow or liner for your eyes, or even a plum tinted lip.

Nails

Purple and gold nails are a must. Try Sally Hansen’s Miracle Gel Nail Polish in Too Haute for long-lasing, glossy colour that truly lives up to its name. Add a gold glitter layer or an accent nail to add even more Golden Hawk spirit!

Hair

Your hair style really depends on what hair accessory you decide to wear. Loose waves look fab with headbands and straight hair typically falls nice with a baseball cap. An Ariana Grande inspired half-ponytail also looks super cute with a bow.

Outfit

As for an outfit, the bookstore and hawk shop have tons of great options with the Laurier logo from tank tops, t-shirts, shorts, jerseys, and more. Or, take the DIY route: buy a larger fitting shirt and be creative! Customize it by cutting a fringe, cutouts, cropping it, or making it fall off one shoulder. Add bows and glitter to personalize it as your own even more.

For shoes, ensure you chose a pair that will be comfortable all day long as you jump between venues. Converse or flat shoes are always a good option, but, if you’re feeling bold, try a pair of golden glittery shoes to make a statement.

Accessories

Socks, beads, sunglasses, boas, baseball caps, hats, headbands, flowers, whistles, bows – everything and anything works!

Voilà, you’re ready! Happy homecoming, Golden Hawks! Stay safe and we can’t wait to see you all showing off your purple and gold! Xo

You will typically see me with a large cup of tea and browsing social media under the fairy lights and reading up on my favourite lady bosses (Mindy Kaling let me be you please). Also my trivia regarding superheroes is endless. I have more music than time to listen to and someone definitely should consider taking away my blogging privileges.

My love for pop culture is limitless and Netflix is the true MVP in my opinion.
