Back to school season has begun! What does that mean? Countless hours of studying, late nights partying and waking up with greasy hair. Let’s be real: we’ve all been in a position one way or another when there simply isn’t any time to hop in the shower, wash, blow dry, and then style your hair. Obviously, dry shampoo has made life a whole lot easier for busy university girls, but then the struggle is how to wear your second-day hair in any style other than a standard ponytail. My first tip is to apply dry shampoo or baby powder in your hair the night before, or at least a few minutes before you decide to get ready. This way, the powder can absorb the greasy oils in your hair. You can pick up some great dry shampoos at the drugstore such as Klorane Gentle Dry Shampoo, Dove Invigorating Dry Shampoo, and Batiste Dry Shampoo. If you’re willing to splurge, my favourite is the Bumble and Bumble Pret a Powder!

My three go -to hairstyles for my dirty hair are: side braid/ fishtail, top knot, and the half up half down with a twist.  The side braid and fishtail styles are extremely similar; however, the fishtail requires a little more skill, patience, and time, but the results are so pretty and will definitely last you all day.

Side Braid/ Fishtail

1. Gather all hair to one side.

2. Separate hair into two even sections.

3. Now for the tricky part. Take a small piece of hair from section 1 and bring it over to section two, then bring a small piece from section 1 and bring it over to section one.

4. Continue this process all the way through the hair.

5. Secure with a small rubber elastic and finish it off with a spritz of hairspray to ensure your style lasts all day.

Top Knot

This is probably the easiest and most chic looking. Rather than creating a messy bun on the top of your head, the top knot looks classy, extremely put together, and as if you put in a lot of effort. You can achieve this look in only 6 steps!

1. Gather all hair into a high pony.

2. Tease little sections of the pony to add more volume.

3. Twist the ponytail and start to wrap it around the base of the hair style.

4. For a ballerina-looking bun, twist the pony tight, but if you want to achieve a New York runway type of look, twist the pony more loosely while wrapping it around the base.

5. Secure the end by pinning it under the bun with some hair pins! For extreme hold, crisscross your hair pins to make an X.

6. For a softer look, pull out a few pieces to frame your face.

Half Up Half Down

The third hairstyle is the classic half up half down – with a twist!

Twist one: the trendy messy bun. Begin with your regular half up look, but rather than leaving a pony tail, add some dimension with a bun.

Twist two: Go for the classic or trendy messy bun half up half down, but add a decorative head band! Try these from Forever 21

There you have it! Whether you’re crunched for time, trying to train your hair to not get as greasy as fast, just finished at the gym or whatever your excuse may be, hopefully these go-to styles can help pull you together, and make your dirty hair last another day.

Wilfrid Laurier

You will typically see me with a large cup of tea and browsing social media under the fairy lights and reading up on my favourite lady bosses (Mindy Kaling let me be you please). Also my trivia regarding superheroes is endless. I have more music than time to listen to and someone definitely should consider taking away my blogging privileges. My love for pop culture is limitless and Netflix is the true MVP in my opinion. Contributor writer for HerCampus Laurier Stalk me and let's be friends here: Insta & Twitter: webofem
