The days are getting shorter and colder, and some of us might be finding ourselves getting a bit gloomy because of this. I made a list, for myself and for everyone reading this, of five reasons to be happy right now. Hopefully one of the things on this list reminds you of a time in your life that made you happy, or of the people that you love. If we take the time to think about it, there are many small things in our lives that can bring us joy.

The Christmas Countdown has begun

For me, when November 1 st comes around, I immediately get into the Christmas mood. I start playing Christmas music throughout my house, light a few Christmas candles and even start getting the decorations up. I love this time of year because it’s not close enough to Christmas to stress about gifts yet, but not too early that you can still enjoy the fall season while it slowly starts to disappear. So start getting into the Christmas spirit because it will definitely make you happy.

There are fewer Covid restrictions

This one is a good one. With more people getting vaccinated and cases dropping, COVID-19 restrictions are easing up. Seeing people again has definitely brought me so much joy and made me feel like my life is going back to normal. On November 15th all capacity limits will be lifted in Ontario in many public places such as restaurants and bars – but remember, you have to be vaccinated and continue to wear a mask!

There has never been a better time to rewatch “The Office”

The Office is one show that I can always rely on to make me happy. The first time I watched the whole show through, I remember giggling to myself in almost every episode. It’s on Netflix, so it’s accessible to almost everyone and it’s very easy to binge. If you do binge, I recommend you go for a long walk before or after you do so! Some screen time will make you happy but not too much of it!

it’s officially sweater weather

I don’t know about you, but I love sweater weather. My go-to outfit in the fall is jeans and a cute sweater. I know it’s pretty basic, but it’s just so practical. You can go anywhere and not have to worry about wearing a big winter jacket yet. You also don’t have to bring a sweater with you if you’re worried about someone’s AC being too cold like we do during the summer. You can easily walk out of your house wearing one thing and take nothing but your phone, wallet and mask, and you’re all set for any expedition.

Halloween candy is on sale

I know that we are excited about Christmas now, but we can’t forget about Halloween just yet! Now is the best time to buy Halloween candy because it’s all on sale! As a student, this is such a big win for me. Cheap food always makes me happy. So, if you haven’t bought any yet, I would recommend running to the nearest grocery store!

There are so many other things I can think of that make me happy. Writing this article was kind of therapeutic for me. It made me happy to think about everything that brings me joy! If you’ve made it this far in my article, I recommend that you write down five things that bring you joy and put that list somewhere where you can see it every day! This is just one of the many ways we can help our seasonal blues.
