Campus Celeb: Kevin Jang

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wilfrid Laurier chapter.

Meet Kevin, one of Laurier’s most charming eligible bachelors on campus. You have probably seen him around giving tours, or in his second home, the 24 lounge. Check out our interview with him to get to know more about this genuine guy!

Name: Kevin Jang

Age: 19

Year of Study: 2nd Year

Program: Business Administration

Motto: Do your best. Your best will be enough.

In only two years at Laurier, what have you managed to get involved with?

In my first year, I had a chance to work with an awesome Events team as an Events Coordinator when I was with the School of Business and Economics Students’ Society (now Lazaridis Students’ Society). Come to think of it, that’s really the only thing I had a huge commitment to in first year. That and Gabby Desjarlais. I volunteered for the Open House, did some intramurals and stuff. Not much outside of that. Super fun though.

This year, I had a chance to be an Ice Breaker for Orientation Week and work as a Campus Ambassador (thanks Sean & Hil), so definitely give me a wave if you spot me giving a tour (Kanwar, they loved it). I was recently initiated into the Sigma Chi Fraternity here at Laurier, participated in Winter Carnival for the first time, am part of the Executive team for Laurier’s Relay for Life, ran and was elected to the Board of Directors on the Students’ Union, and I can proudly say that I own an intramural champion t-shirt as of the Fall term in 2015.

What has been the best part of being involved with the campus community?

This is an amazing, well-oiled, student-run campus. Everywhere I go, I see friends at a booth promoting their causes and clubs, and reaching out to others (especially Chris Chung). There are so many opportunities for students here to have a chance to find their passions, friends, and gain some experiences and incredible memories.

What’s the best part of being involved with the campus community? It’s the community that has so graciously accepted me into their lives that’s the best part.

Flashback to your first day at Laurier, what is one piece of advice you would give yourself?

“Don’t spend so much on the poster fair”… “Spread out your flex dollars”… “Get rid of that garbage summer playlist you made before coming here; it’s not cool”… Then again, where I am right now, I wouldn’t trade it for the world (figuratively).

What is something most people don’t know about you?

I’ve always wanted a big family. I think that’s why I’ve been so fond of mobster movies. Their families are so big. I mean, that’s the dream right? Get married at 22, have 3 kids, rise up the ranks until someone gets suspicious and takes you out at 26. Or make it past that and become the living embodiment of the Godfather.

I also have a sister.

How would you describe your perfect day in the life of Kevin?

Well it sure isn’t a weekday. Maybe a Friday. I don’t have classes on Friday.

The scene: It’s a Friday morning. My alarm goes off at 9 AM. The birds are chirping, sun is shining. I go back to bed for 15 minutes. Coffee. Crossword puzzle (I have an app). Go on campus.

I hit up my squad. We raid a room in the 24. Group project? Nope. Studying? Unlikely. Grab a lunch from Wilf’s and watch Parks and Recreation? Chris Pratt.

I have a date later that day (remember, this is MY perfect day… not a realistic day by any means). I’ve been waiting a while to ask her out, so I take her to a movie (probably Deadpool), and afterwards, I take her skating and we just talk. We grab a coffee; I walk her back home.

I make my way back on campus. Meet up with some friends again. We order a pizza for dinner and take a room in Bricker. We put a movie on the screen (probably An Extremely Goofy Movie) while doing whatever it is we need to do: group projects, studying, Euchre.

I walk back home, either with a friend of mine, or Foot Patrol, as both are very good at holding a conversation. Arrive home, take a shower, call my mom, KO, GG.

Where do you see yourself following graduation?

I’ve recently been thinking about staying and maybe finding a job within the school. This place has become such a big part of who I am, I don’t know what I’d do if I left. Outside of that, I would go down a path that makes me into the real-life George Bailey (James Stewart) from It’s a Wonderful Life (my go-to holiday flick).

If you were granted three wishes, what would you wish for?

1. Make me Batman (and everything that comes with it).

2. Give the Maple Leafs the 1st overall pick in this year’s draft.

3. End poverty.

What has been your favourite memory at Laurier so far?

Haha. My Winter Carnival team made me represent them for the pageant show during the week (thanks Rob). I was nervous, no doubt, but making people laugh, seeing people entertained, and just doing it for my friends was all the support I needed to go up there and grind up on Kitching. Winning that pageant was one of the most fun moments I’ve had at this school, and one I won’t forget (big S/O to Mackenzie, Mitch, and Ayah for training me). Meeting Lauren Burnside was a close second.

You will typically see me with a large cup of tea and browsing social media under the fairy lights and reading up on my favourite lady bosses (Mindy Kaling let me be you please). Also my trivia regarding superheroes is endless. I have more music than time to listen to and someone definitely should consider taking away my blogging privileges. My love for pop culture is limitless and Netflix is the true MVP in my opinion. Contributor writer for HerCampus Laurier Stalk me and let's be friends here: Insta & Twitter: webofem
