The Best Movies to Get Cozy with this Holiday Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wilfrid Laurier chapter.

Well it is that time of year again, where December is beginning, the chilly weather is in full swing, and procrastination from studying for finals is upon us. Naturally, one of the main things to do when avoiding academics is watching Netflix. For those of you collegiettes that are getting into the holiday spirit, I am here to provide you with a list of fun, loving movies that are enjoyable to watch alone or with those special people in your lives.

Santa Clause 1, 2, 3 and… 4

I hope you can agree with me when I say that Tim Allen’s classic Santa Clause movie is one of the best holiday movies I have on this list. The original was a great start to the series because we got to see a greedy business man have a change of heart, because he had to fill the large boots of old Saint Nick. Although the original was fantastic, the sequels were just as amazing. I mean, no one could have taken on the role of Jack Frost better than Martin Short! If you are wondering what to do over the holidays, then I suggest for you to have a marathon during your break! What could be more fun than watching an ending feud between Jack Frost and Santa Clause?

Polar Express

I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical about this movie at first because the first time I saw this movie I ended falling sleep through the first bit of it. After giving it another watch, I realized how magical this movie really was. It takes you on adventure and makes the inner child inside of your heart question your belief in the guy in the red suit. Also, the hot chocolate musical number scene was probably one of my favorite scenes to watch. I suggest that you make yourself a steaming mug of hot coco and watch the magic happen.

How The Grinch Stole Christmas

Oh the classic green meanie who stole all the presents from Whoville. Whether you are watching the animated or live action version, both are sweet enough to warm your heart with its mushy ending. I always like watching this movie because I feel the Grinch’s personality is quite relatable #true. Enjoy singing along with Cindy Lou Who in asking, “Where are you Christmaaas; why can’t I find youuu?”

Jingle All The Way

Oh what fun it is to ride in a one horse open sleigh, hey! And it’s also fun watching this roller coaster of a holiday movie! Jingle All The Way is one of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s lighter roles. He plays a dad who goes on a mission, and I do mean mission, to find the perfect Christmas present for his son. You hear so much about Turbo Man in this movie that you actually start to believe he is a real life superhero, but I would never dare to forget about Captain America! #ManCrushMonday

National Lampoons Christmas Vacation

Who could forget about the Griswolds? In this hilarious, spit out your eggnog funny family movie, the Griswolds family experiences the worst luck not even imaginable when preparing for the holiday season. I remember watching this movie when I was young, not even catching on to half of the crazy things that were said in this movie. As I am older, it is a whole lot funnier when you understand exactly what you are watching. I recommend it for the whole family! #keepthegoodtimescoming

The Holiday

Hands down, this movie is my all time favourite holiday movie. It has everything you could possibly want: romance, comedy, sadness, and… a young Jude Law #hotbritalert. I am pretty sure I fell in love just a little bit when I watched this movie for the first time. It is a tradition of mine that I must watch this movie around Christmas time every year, surrounded by the warm fireplace, a beautiful Christmas tree, a cozy blanket, and a lovely glass of wine, hot chocolate, or tea (whichever mood I am in!).  All I know is that I can’t even express how much I love, LOVE this movie. If you are looking for a little more cheese around the holiday season, I highly recommend it!

I am sure I missed a key few Christmas movies on this list, but these were just a few of my favs that I wanted to share with all of you.  Put on your comfies and get cozy because watching holiday movies around Christmas time, whether you are by yourself or with the ones you love, is one of the best activities by far! Happy holidays and happy binging!

Wilfrid Laurier

You will typically see me with a large cup of tea and browsing social media under the fairy lights and reading up on my favourite lady bosses (Mindy Kaling let me be you please). Also my trivia regarding superheroes is endless. I have more music than time to listen to and someone definitely should consider taking away my blogging privileges. My love for pop culture is limitless and Netflix is the true MVP in my opinion. Contributor writer for HerCampus Laurier Stalk me and let's be friends here: Insta & Twitter: webofem
