5 Moments from the 2017 Oscars that were Totally #Relatable

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wilfrid Laurier chapter.

To say this year’s Oscars were memorable would be an understatement.  There were definitely some ups and downs, but what’s most important was that some key moments proved even the most glamorous night in Hollywood is totally #relatable.

Moment #1: When Chrissy Teigen fell asleep

When is Chrissy not our spirit animal?! Just admit it.  This is you on sooo many levels.  On the ride home after too many drinks at the bar, after a long (boring!) day in class…the list goes on and on.  Sad part is, we can only wish we looked this glam snoozing on the DL.

Moment #2: The biggest Oscar mistake in history

Truly a moment that will go down in history.  No one will ever forget when the presenters read the wrong winner for best picture.  This moment is #relatable since we’ve all been “Steve Harvied” by the barista at Starbucks into thinking we were reaching for our drink, only to realize it was for the guy in front of us.

Moment #3: When Ryan Gosling couldn’t contain his adorable laughter

When Ryan burst out laughing during the most awkward moment in Oscar history we knew we could relate to his reaction on Every. Single. Level.  We’ve all been in an awkward situation and felt the need to burst out laughing.  Those are the best moments to relieve tension.  Or maybe the worst?

Moment #4: When Emma Roberts recycled her dress

I would like to thank the academy for realizing that everyone reuses clothes! Not everyone can be a Hollywood starlet and afford to break the bank for a new outfit all the time.  This is why Emma totally gets us.  She made the act of recycling an uber cool trend when she showed up to the affair wearing a designer gown from 2005.  It’s official.  It is now celeb-approved to reuse your clothes and be an outfit repeater.  Plus, recycling your clothes is awesome for the environment so bonus points!

Moment #5: When the Moana performance hit a rough patch (literally)

Everything was going peachy until the Moana star suffered a minor head butt by a moving flag during her performance.  As university students, we call all relate to everything going well until a big blue flag comes flying out of nowhere to ruin your moment.  But, like Auli’l Cravalho, you power through like you don’t even know what hit you.

I’d like to thank the 2017 Oscars for making each of these moments so #relatable!
