Benedict Cumberbatch to Play Hamlet On Stage

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Westminster chapter.

Get Ready Cumbercollective! We’ve got some news for you- our favourite detective is about to get theatrical (and no we don’t mean a Sherlock theatre performance, but that would be grand!)

Benedict Cumberbatch has agreed to play the title character in Hamlet in a production next year at Barbican Theatre from August to October 2015 (12 week run).

Lyndsey Turnet will direct the play under Sonia Friedman Productions.

Best known for his role in Sherlock, BC has also had some stellar roles in 12 Years a Slave and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

The last time he was seen on stage was in a 2011 production of Danny Boyle’s Frankenstein- check out the still!

We’re sure he’s going to be just marvelous and can’t wait till the tickets release in May!
