Shannon is one of the sweetest, most amazing people I’ve ever met. We spent a week volunteering together, and I bonded with her so much. Check out all the incredible things that this lovely lady has done!

Tell me about yourself and all the things you do at Western:

Throughout my (almost) 4 years, I’ve had the opportunity to get involved with a number of things at Western and I can’t imagine my time here as being quite as enriching otherwise. Currently, I work as a campus tour guide and I’m an executive member on Western Adventist Students Association (WASA) and DAN Managements Students Association (DMSA). As a tour guide I get to share my purple pride with prospective Mustangs; as a member of WASA I have a community of friends who share my faith; and as a member of DMSA I get to hone valuable leadership and communication skills and network with a hardworking group of students and alumni from my program! More recently, I’ve been involved with Western’s Alternative Spring Break (ASB) where I travelled to New Orleans on a service learning trip to work with Habitat for Humanity, which was truly a humbling and unbelievably rewarding experience. Thanks for the mems, Western!

What do you want to do after you graduate?

The job hunt is on. Ideally I’d like to get relevant work experience in marketing/product development in an international destination and hopefully take the time to travel as much as possible before heading to grad school within the next 1-2 years.

What’s your favorite thing to do off campus?

SLEEP and go out for good food with friends and then more sleep.

Who is your role model?

Malala Yousafzai. Anyone who so boldly and passionately advocates at the UN for children all around the world to get an education definitely sits somewhere on the top of my list of people who I admire.

What is your favorite song right now?

Ohhh man I can’t pick just one but some of my fave signing-in-the-shower tunes right now are: Cheap Thrills by Sia ft Sean Paul, It’s You by Zayn, When We Were Young by Adele, Where I Wanna Be by Arizona and Love On The Brain by Riri

Do you have any mottos that you live by?

I generally try to live with an attitude of gratitude. According to my girl Oprah, “Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough” #countyablessings

What do you want to be when you grow up?

HAPPY (cliché but so important)

Have you had any classes/ professors at Western that made an impact on you?

Professor Raymond Leduc from the MOS dept is a pretty awesome professor. He really cares about his students and takes the time out in class and office hours to really go through any difficult material with you. He was also one of the professors that I, along with other students, traveled to Hong Kong with last summer for a 4th year study abroad course, which was truly an exciting learning experience for me. What I especially admire about him is that he diligently sends all the MOS students valuable information and available opportunities for us here on campus and in London and encourages us to get involved.

Professor Lauren Barr has also impacted my time at Western. She teaches in the Sociology dept and is one of the exceptional profs who really puts an emphasis on teaching and not just lecturing. She presents the subject mater in such an engaging and interesting way. I love that she really attempts to connect with us as students and she is super approachable. Don’t pass up an opportunity to take a class with her!

Do you have any guilty pleasures?

Chocolate covered espresso beans, watching Chrissy Teigen’s snapchats on repeat and taking selfies with the cutest canine in the world (my pup Rico).

What’s your favorite thing to do in your spare time?

Since I’m so far away from home and don’t see my parents/sister/friends from home very often I love catching up with them via FaceTime/Skype for hours on end.

What are you watching on Netflix right now/what’s your favorite show?

I recently started re-watching One Tree Hill, which will always be one of my all time favorite shows. Though I’ve watched the entire thing already in high school, it’s such an amazing show that I feel like I’m watching it for the first time. Fuller House is also on my Netflix radar; gotta love me some Uncle Jesse.

What is your dream travel destination/next trip that you have planned?

Iceland! The Golden Circle, the Blue Lagoon and snorkeling /diving in the Silfra Fissure. Need I say more?
