Tell me about yourself and all the things you do at Western:

I’m going into my fourth year as a double major, which is so scary and exciting! My house is like a small zoo, I have two cats and a dog, and my roommate also has a dog. I’m the president of Her Campus Western Ontario, and I’m also a Chapter Advisor, Campus Expansion Assistant, and Viral Writer for Her Campus. I’m an international student, from Los Angeles, and I miss home so much- London is a big change!

What are you most excited for this year with HCWO?

I can’t wait to meet all our new team members and to see what events we will host this year!

How did you get involved with HC?

I saw a post in the MIT group almost 2 years ago and decided to join! I still have the email that started it all.

What’s your favorite HCWO article?

In Defence of My Degree” by Ella Purtill- one of our most well researched and well written articles. I also love “The Worst Friend I Ever Had” by Sarah Botelho- such an interesting take on depression. Mental health is something that is very important to me personally and to our chapter, and I think Sarah did an amazing job talking about her struggle.

What did you like most about your major?

I am so interested in how people interact, and Sociology is all about that! I love my Crim major because I secretly want to be Olivia Benson when I grow up.

What was your favorite thing to do in London?

Go to the dog park and watch my pup leap around like a horse.

What did you do this summer?

I worked as a hostess at a burger place (even though I’m a vegetarian lol), worked at Anthropologie, which I loved so much, did a ton of yoga, and became a reverend so I could officiate my parent’s wedding. I also spend a lot of time with my three huge pups.

Do you have any mottos that you live by?

“Everything happens for a reason,” because even the bad stuff winds up working out in the end.

Do have any guilty pleasures?

Kesha and chocolate, but I’m not ashamed about either of them.

What’s your favorite thing to do in your spare time?

Go on adventures with my dog, and obvs snuggle with her.

Where is the best/last place you have travelled to?

I loved Italy, France, and Spain, but I also did a semester abroad in Israel which was honestly so life changing- I’m still friends with everyone that I travelled abroad with!

Can’t wait to work with everyone this year- I am here if you need anything!

Ariel graduated from Western University in 2017. She served as her chapter's Campus Correspondent, has been a National Content Writer, and a Campus Expansion Assistant. She is currently a Chapter Advisor and Chapter Advisor Region Leader.
