Tell me about yourself and all the things you do at Western:

I am going into my third year at UWO (and trust me, I still sometimes get lost around campus). I am a member of Alpha Gamma Delta – Zeta Chi chapter, a debater for the UWO Debate Society, and a volunteer at Track Three, a program run by Boler Mountain that is dedicated to teaching those with various mental and physical disabilities how to ski. I am also a freelance writer at Total Sorority Move, under a secret alias! I spend most of my free time with my chihuahua puppy named Bruiser, and I hope to attend law school in the near future (so is safe to assume that Elle Woods is my fictional role model).

What are you most excited for this year with HCWO?

We have had such an amazing response this summer from students interested in becoming writers. Looking at the group of writers that we have for the upcoming year, I see a group of wonderful women who represent Western as a whole. Having writers in different programs, in different years, with some having nothing more in common than loving writing and being apart of HCWO excites me; as I am sure that this diversity will widen the topics we cover this year. Not only am I excited to meet our new writers, but I am even more excited to see the articles that they produce.

How did you get involved with HC?

I got involved with Her Campus last summer. As an avid reader of the site in first year, I used many of the articles as a go – to guide on life at UWO. Last summer I worked up the courage to email Kellie, the President at the time, to see if the group was looking for new writers, and I was welcomed in with open arms. Being apart of Her Campus has opened up so many opportunities for me in the past year alone. Not to get sappy so soon, but being surrounded by such inspiring women has pushed me to continue to strive for my goals, and motivate me every day.

What’s your favorite HCWO article?

As hard as it is to choose, ‘Adults Are Only Grown-Up Kids Anyway’ by Becca Serena has to be my favourite. As a child, I went to Disney annually – my first steps were even taken there. Since coming to university, and (unfortunately) taking on ‘adult’ responsibilities, I have not been able to visit the best place on earth. Becca’s article gave me intense FOMO, and the way that she describes Disney captures the magical essence that you can only truly find in the park itself.

My favourite article that I wrote is ‘The Many Thoughts I Had Waiting For the Kylie Jenner Lip Kit,’ mainly because it was such a hilarious piece to write. I’ve always labeled myself as a very competitive person; and as the clock started ticking down to the release time, I started to feel as if I was gearing up for a hunger games – esque battle against all of the other makeup addicts. I thought it was ridiculous that I was getting so much anxiety for a lipstick launch, so I wrote this article to distract myself. I figured that airing my inner – crazy thoughts would be entertaining for everyone!

What did you like most about your major?

I love to read the criminal cases that we are given to read and analyze. In my opinion, there is such a difference between simply learning the terms and criteria that describe different types of criminals, and actually having a chance to apply this knowledge to cases.

What was your favorite thing to do in London?

Escape Rooms! If you haven’t been in one yet, I would definitely recommend it. The general gist of it is that you are ‘trapped’ in a room with your friends, and are given hints and puzzles that help you ‘escape’ from it. To win, you have to escape in a specified amount of time. Not only is it a great activity to do with a close group of friends (not every night out has to be spent as Ceeps!), but its a fantastic way to learn your personal leadership tactic, and how you work with others.

What did you do this summer?

I lived up at my family’s cottage in Coboconk, Ontario for the summer. I (unfortunately) had to take two online courses this summer, so I could free up time for everything HC related during the school year. During the rest of the time, I worked in a local antique market, where I learned more about old records, books and furniture than I ever thought I would in my life. During the last two weeks of summer, I went to Europe with my family and boyfriend, where we traveled around Italy, France, Spain and North Africa.

Do you have any mottos that you live by?

I love the quote “If A is success in life, then A equals x plus y plus z. Work is x; y is play; and z is keeping your mouth shut.” by Albert Einstein. I’ve been told on more than one occasion that sometimes I can be a tad too outspoken, so this quote is a reminder that I shouldn’t speak my mind all the time. It’s essentially about finding the perfect balance in life.

Do have any guilty pleasures?

Watching NCIS, in bed snuggling with my dog, eating pizza. Its my simple remedy for whenever I get too stressed or have had a bad day. I also definitely have a makeup *problem*, so stay tuned for my review/ how to articles!

What’s your favorite thing to do in your spare time?

Over the summer, mostly due to Tasty videos, I started to learn how to cook. I’m still undecided about whether I actually enjoy the process of cooking, or whether I just like to eat the food that I make! Crissy Teigan’s ‘Cravings’ is my new bible – every night I say a little prayer, wishing to be able to eat all of the recipes out of her book and look like a Victoria Secret angel (who knows – maybe fried chicken is the secret to a fantastic body?)

Where is the best/last place you have travelled to?

Morocco, North Africa! I’m not kidding you, I was almost traded for a carpet. While in a carpet store, the owner told my parents they could have any carpet they wanted if I married his son. At first I thought he was joking, until he started showing my father photos of his son, and telling me I would make a great mother. Currently, the only thing I’m interested in being a mother to is my puppy; so needless to say, I left the store pretty quickly!
