Campus Celebrity: Julia Bevacqua

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Western chapter.

Age: 20

Program: MIT / Ivey

Hometown: Windsor

Relationship Status: In a very happy relationship :)

Tell me about yourself and all the things you do at Western!

I am a third year student pursuing a dual degree in MIT and Ivey. Aside from class, I try to do lot of really diverse things on campus. I play intramural basketball every semester with a really great team of girls. I also work with Engineers Without Borders as the VP of youth engagement and am a representative for the Ivey Sustainability Club. In the past I have volunteered as a student ambassador for FIMS and I work part-time with Prep101. When I’m not studying or doing extracurriculars, I like reading, running (especially on a beautiful fall day), music, baking, cooking, and watching random documentaries on Netflix. One thing that I definitely like is staying busy and I love that Western has so much going on all the time and that there is always something cool to spend time doing.

What’s your favorite thing to do off campus?

One of my favourite places to go is the Yoga Shack near Ceeps. I love going to their hot yoga classes especially at the end of a stressful week. Grocery shopping is a close second though.

How did you get involved in Engineers without Borders?

In grade 12, I became a member of the very first H.O.P.E. Team (“High School Outreach Program Experience”), an extension of the University of Windsor’s EWB chapter. I was really interested in social change, plus one of my best friends was the one who started the team, so I joined and have been hooked on EWB ever since.

Who is your role model?

Easily my momma. She is so many incredible things all rolled into one.

What is your favorite song right now?

Either “To Build A Home” by the Cinematic Orchestra or “The One” by Kodaline.

Do you have any mottos that you live by?

“There’s nowhere you can be that isn’t where you’re meant to be.”

What do you want to be when you grow up?

Not a clue. All I know is that I like the marketing of ideas, social justice, international development, and media literacy. Whatever job combines a few of those, that’s what I want to do.

What do you like about Ivey/MIT?

I like that I get to learn in two environments that are polar opposites of one another. It helps me to form my own opinion about things that aren’t biased entirely by my education.

Do have any guilty pleasures?

Watching 2 Broke Girls . . . It’s really not that well written, has relatively bad acting, and the jokes are too corny but I can’t stop myself.

What’s your favorite thing to do in your spare time?

Leisurely read a book that isn’t mandatory for school!

What superpower would you have if you could pick any super power?

A perfect memory! I would love to stop forgetting simple things like remembering to pick up milk from the store but it would also be cool to better recall the good memories that I have from when I was really young.

What are you watching on Netflix right now/what’s your favorite show?

Right now, I am re-watching Friends from the very beginning
