9 Reasons Every Woman Should Watch “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Western chapter.

When I was around 13, I was introduced to Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I had heard of the show, but had disregarded it as “another one of those garbage vampire shows.” This was around the same time as the Twilight craze, so you understand my hesitation. But I started watching Buffy, and I was hooked. Buffy immediately became someone that I looked up to—she was such a bada*s. I think that every woman should watch Buffy for so many reasons.

1. Buffy is fierce

She could probably kill you just with that look.

2. She accepts her destiny and does her best to cope with it

You don’t become a slayer. Slayers are born. And it’s the same thing with amazing women—you’re born that way!

3. She doesn’t take any misogynistic garbage

So many times in this show, some meathead guy tells Buffy that she can’t do something because she’s a girl. And so many times, she kicks their butts and proves them very, very wrong.

4. She portrays herself as strong and fearless

Even when she’s terrified inside, she exudes confidence. To hide your fear like that takes such incredible strength.

5. Her outfits were always amazing

Sometimes they were a little bit unrealistic—fighting monsters in a graveyard in leather pants and a stringy halter top? I probably couldn’t raise my arm in that outfit. But I guess that added to her mystique.

6. Some of her close friends/lovers were the people she was supposed to be fighting

Buffy breaks down barriers.

7. She would do literally anything for the people that she loves

Including destroying her own happiness.

8. Her perseverance and determination is incredible

She makes it through everything. Every scary monster that comes at her, anyone who tries to hurt her. And also, high school.

9. She makes it through everything, including heartbreak

Not to give too many spoilers, but she proves that you can make it out of even the worst heartbreak.
