Another year, another semester! We know it can get stressful being a University student… but do not fret – HC has got your back with this years Student Survival Kit. Check out our 8 awesome tips for how to make this semester safe, smart, and fun!

1. Decorate your space.

Make your room away from home a place you love to retreat to. You need a space in which you can relax, breathe, and feel comfortable. Having this safe space is important for getting a good sleep and for making you feel less homesick. When this space is decorated and designed to your own liking, it becomes a place you can call home.

2. Find a cause you can believe in.

Your University experience is what you make it – so make it count. Join a club, fight for a cause, get involved. We’ve gotten super passionate about #ActuallySheCan https://actuallyshecan.com/home , an organization creating awareness for female respect and equality. Whatever your passion is, we guarentee there’s a way for you to get involved!

3. Prepare & stay protected.

Girls don’t always have it easy. Between exams, stress, dating, and having a social life, mother nature inevitably chimes in… making everything a bit more difficult. Stay stocked with any pads, tampons, or other sanitary methods you may need. Don’t be the girl who has to run out to the store in a panic. Our personal suggestion is buying yourself a Diva Cup. These things are reusable and proven to work. Check them out at http://divacup.com. We also want to remind you to be prepared for any sexual encounters you may have – ask your doctor about how you can prevent pregnancy and STI’s.

4. Stay Healthy.

With busy school schedules it can be hard to stay active and to make healthy eating choices. Make sure to encourage yourself to purchase fruits and veggies – these are super easy and quick-to-grab snacks for classes. Also investigate into some healthy alternatives of your favourite foods. We’ve recently replaced the sugar in our coffee with zero-calorie Zing stevia sweetner!

We also encourage you to stock up on any type of medications you may need throughout the year. No sick person wants to have to head out to the drug store to get some cold medicine. Having these things on-hand makes getting better easier and faster!

5. Stay coupon and dollar savy.

Trust us, coupons are THE BEST. Why pay full price when you can get an awesome discount on the things you want and need? Be sure to stay tuned to Her Campus Western Ontario for monthly giveaways and promotions… like this one for Martha Stewart Crafts at Michaels!

6. Look good, feel good.

We know you’re tired and that a messy bun is your go-to hair style for class, but every once and a while, be sure to dress up! Putting some extra effort into your look can improve your mindset and increase your confidence. We’ve been using NYC 24HR waterproof eyeshadow to dress up our on-campus look…. and it’s the bomb.

7. Get creative.

School work and classes can get repetative. Your days get dull…. and those essays pile up. SO, spice things up by doing something fun and creative. Don’t get stuck in a rut. Go out and buy yourself a colouring book, make a scarf, draw a picture, paint something. We’re obsessed with these Martha Stewart paints… Our HC posters are going to look FAB.

8. Treat yourself.

When things aren’t going your way, treat yourself. School is hard, but it should also be fun. Don’t sacrifice your mental health and stability for good grades – take care of yourself too! We suggest going for walks, joining an intermural sports team, or particpating in something fun like the #BakeaChange – where you bake for charity! Find out more at http://www.bakeachange.org
