With its fresh snowfalls and twinkling Christmas lights, winter can be full of beauty. But as the temperature drops, your physical appearance may be left out in the cold. As someone with dry skin, winter feels like a race to beat the cold before it causes too much damage. Here are five of my staple winter beauty products that have helped my skin through the winter.

1. The Body Shop Hemp Hand Cream or Almond Hand Cream

If I could only have one beauty product for the winter, it would most definitely be hand cream. Going outside in the cold, even for only a few minutes per day, makes my hands extremely dry and cracked. I have tried many creams but these are my two current favourites from The Body Shop. The Hemp Hand Cream has a thick texture—I like to apply it generously to my hands and leave it on overnight. The Almond Hand Cream has a lighter consistency but is just as moisturizing, making it perfect to use throughout the day.

2. Bite Agave Lip Mask

This thick and effective lip mask contains agave nectar and jojoba oil. It works overnight, but also comes in several shades that can be worn in the daytime, as well as in a clear shade. I find this lip mask to be much more effective than regular chapstick, which tends to dry my lips out more. But also, remember to drink plenty of water if your lips are feeling dehydrated.

3. The Ordinary Caffeine Solution for Under Eyes

With winter also comes finals season for most students, which means many long days and late nights of studying. Even the dreariness of winter may leave us feeling less energetic than usual, making under eye bags especially common. This caffeine solution from The Ordinary is designed to reduce pigmentation and puffiness around the eyes. I apply it for 10 to 15 minutes every morning before rinsing it off and applying makeup. It reduces my under eye bags and can also be applied at nighttime for further results.

4. Dr. Jart Water Fuse Hydro Sleep Mask

This is one of the more expensive face masks I’ve tried, but there are many overnight hydrating face masks available. Leaving a mask like this one on overnight gives it time to soak in. My skin always looks extra plump and hydrated in the morning.

5. Lush Sleepy Body Lotion

A high quality body lotion is the key to soft and smooth skin in the winter. Lush has a variety of great products for the winter. The Sleepy Body Lotion is one of my favorites because it is so gentle with the comforting scent of lavender, while being extremely effective. Apply this lotion to your body or face before bed, so you can feel calm and pampered before a night of rest.

If you suffer from the drying effects of winter, try incorporating these products into your beauty routine. These also make great Christmas gifts for just about anyone who has experienced winter. Don’t forget to stay hydrated, apply SPF to your face daily, and take a vitamin D supplement! In just a few months, the season of dry hands and cracked lips will be over once again.
