The 21 Thoughts You Have When You Decide To Change Your Major

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Western chapter.

Most people go into university knowing exactly where they want to go and where they’ll be in ten years down the line. Or at least that’s what it seems like. In reality we’re all trying to figure it out as we go. So it makes sense that somewhere along the way a few of us might realise we actually want to do study something else. That being said, it doesn’t mean it will be an easy or smooth transition, there might even be a little bit of freaking out that happens. Here’s a list of 21 thoughts that happen when you decide to change your major:

  1. OHMYGAWDAMIREALLYDOINGTHIS?!?!?!?

  2. Yes. Yes, I am. It feels right.

  3. Okay, what the hell do I do now?

  4. Drop all the courses I hate! Yeah.

  5. Wait, I can’t do that.

  6. How many do I actually need to keep?

  7. Do I even have any of the prerequisites I need?

  8. Ahhhh there are so many courses I want to take!

  9. I wish I’d made this choice earlier.

  10. Hang on, I’m going to be here for HOW much longer?

  11. Am I sure I want to be here that long?

  12. But do I want to keep doing what I know I hate?

  13. Lots of people change majors! This is totally normal!

  14. If so many people change majors, why can’t I find any information on how to do it?

  15. Can I afford to change majors? That’s so much wasted time and money.

  16. If I’m changing majors should I change schools?

  17. Should I just make this a minor and struggle through?

  18. How many people get a job with the degree they actually graduate with anyways?

  19. Shouldn’t this be the fun time of my life where I get to try what I want to do?

  20. I’m so nervous.

  21. But I can’t wait for it to be official!
