I always grew green with envy over those with naturally beautiful, freckly skin. Something about the sweetness of a face littered with those happy little marks makes me feel joyful and at ease. For such a long time, I watched beauty gurus online, and even my freckly friends try to conceal their spots. I never understood this as I always thought they looked incredibly radiant when they let them shine right through instead.

I suppose the grass is always greener on the other side, and people are free to do their faces in any way that makes them feel beautiful. However, as a non-freckly gal, I wanted nothing more than to jump on the trend of seeing those marks, whether they are natural or created using makeup, and so I decided to do just that.  Over the summer, I explored different three methods of creating fake freckles, and I am here to share my expertise (if you want to call it that).

Eyeshadow

Before diving into the realm of beauty products on the market that designed specifically for creating faux freckles, I wanted to make sure I liked them on my face first. To achieve the look at home without purchasing anything extra, I decided to pull out my eyeshadow palette that contained the most neutral shades and find one that resembled the color and tone of the handful of beauty spots I on my cheek.
Once I determined the correct shade, I used the tip of a thin eyeliner brush to pick up the product and stipple it onto the tops of my cheeks, over my blush, and on my nose.

After making as many marks as my heart desired, I went over them with a clean powder brush, just for the sake of blending things in and making them look less drawn on.

While I did enjoy the look, I found that it was a bit heavy on the powders for my chronically dry skin, so I had to make sure I kept my face hydrated with my rosewater spray to avoid looking too cakey.

Brow Pencil

On my second attempt, I decided to avoid the dry, heaviness of powders and opt for designing my freckled face using my eyebrow pencil. I previously saw a tutorial on Instagram, where the girl used her brow products to add some beauty spots, so I figured I could do the same.
I took out my brow pencil and poked around on my cheeks and nose in the same way that I did with my eyeshadow the day before. I was shocked at how much I liked the way this looked. I proceeded to do it for the rest of the week and loved how it pulled my whole look together.
With this in mind, I decided to take the next step and start looking at designated freckle products to ensure I used something in the correct color and to prevent myself from burning through my poor brow pencil at lightning speed.

Freckle Pen

After a quick Google search, I suddenly faced an entire list of freckle products that drastically ranged in prices.

At first, I purchased a bottle of Freck, an Urban Outfitters product with stellar reviews and the self-proclaimed “original freckle” product. However, after receiving my package in the mail, I just about keeled over in shock at the product’s tiny size. It was so small! So small that I felt uncomfortable with the $20 I confidently spent on it, thinking that it would take me forever to finish a whole bottle. I ended up sending it right back.

So, I went back to the internet and ended up finding the Lime Crime freckle pen that retailed for less with the coupon I used and came with more product and in more shades.

I was ecstatic after using it for the first time as it was so easy to create the look I wanted by dotting them on and then tapping and spreading them out with my ring finger. I am incredibly happy with my purchase, using it daily and recommending it to anyone who thinks they might want to take a crack at the beauty that comes with having freckles.
