We all have our good days and our bad days… but today? Today, I feel like giving up. I feel like laying in bed all day. I don’t feel like doing any of my homework, I don’t feel like going to the gym, and I don’t feel like talking to my friends and family. What do I do whenever those thoughts are running through my head? The list is short, but helpful, and it begins like this.

Get Up

As much as I might not want to, I do get out of bed those days. It might take a little longer than usual, and I might not be as enthusiastic about beginning my day, but I do get up. I start my day off with a shower –  there is nothing like some water splashing your face and waking you up on a crappy day like this one. I brush my teeth and I throw on an outfit that makes me feel good about myself. Then I do my makeup, so I’ll like myself a more than I originally did. Once I am done, I feel a bit more productive than when I started, allowing me to strive for a more positive day with the following thoughts.

Remind Yourself: You are Your Own Worst Enemy

Whatever thoughts might be running through my head, I remind myself that it is just one bad day out of so many good ones. You are your own worst enemy, and as long as I remember that, I can pull myself out of the unmotivating thoughts I am having. Often times, whatever thoughts are going through your head are usually sparked by something, so I try to do something to keep my mind busy. That usually includes reading, drawing, cooking, shopping, hanging out with friends, and any other activity that will allow your mind to stray outside of negative thoughts!

Finally, Just Do It

Just like the famous Nike brand slogan says, just do it! Remind yourself of any of the times that you did get work done and how that made you feel. That feeling of accomplishment and weight being lifted off your shoulders is a feeling you need to hold on to on the harder days. Hard work doesn’t feel as hard once you have it in front of you. In my opinion, there is something so satisfying about checking things off of my weekly to-do list.

I am struggling today, but I got this and so do you. If you have ever struggled to get up in the morning and do basic tasks that you do every other day, I hope this article will help you through that as much as it helped me while writing it.
